This! I know a few people from the UK and other places around Europe and when they come here they always make fun of how we Americans cook our vegetables. They say "No wonder why your kids don't eat veggies, they're all boiled and covered with butter and salt and all taste the same!"

Mmm sounds great! I'll have to try that as well.
Sometimes I mix it with a little bit of cream cheese

Agree and I wouldn't eat it every day like some people do!
My general rule - Fat should not count for more than 1 percent of a meal. Avocado is not food, it’s fat.

Not what my Dr told me when I had low red blood cell count.

www.americanschoolofnaturalhealth.com...

Lots of veggies have vitamin C. I am not against other veggies but I do not think Avacados are appropriate for most people to consume in other than moderate amounts. If someone has ancestry where they have been consuming them for many generations, they can usually eat them without side effects.

Now, this article does not address the chemistry in Avacado that breaks down the enzyme that breaks down histamine to keep our bodies in homeostasis, but it does give some information on some of it's problems. www.bustle.com...

When you eat foods with these properties that blocks DAO then you can wind up intolerant to a lot of other things and you give them up instead of what is causing the problem. Pineapple and tomatoes along with other things that disable DAO can cause problems too, all of these have been touted as super foods.

With Histamine levels really high, what is prescribed for reactions....antihistamines, H1,H2,H3, and even H4 blockers. If Histamine levels are too high, what happens when you get the flu....Cytokine storm is possible which puts you in the hospital sometimes. Your immune response is too strong. How do they fix it, they give the person histamine blocking IVs to settle their immune system down. Too much histamines can trigger autoimmune issues too.

A little avacado is not going to kill or hurt anyone, but it seems like lots of people are going overboard with this since it started to get promoted as a health food. I just say, moderation and occasionally is safe, overconsumption of stuff like this can cause problems. MAOA+B, DAO, MTHFR, and some other epigenetic traits are involved in this.. those are genetic traits but not all of the problems with latex fruit syndrome have known genetic traits yet.

Yes, I'm addicted to avocado toast for sure!

My favorite way to eat it is loaded up, like a loaded potato!

GOOD bread/toast - half a smashed avocado with fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper.
Veggie delight vegan ham slices - sliced roma tomato, shredded carrot, chickpeas, scallion, sesame and pumpkin seeds and a side of endive and ginger salad.

How do you like yours?

perfect but I like it on a hot corn tortilla

Actually I challenge anyone to heat a corn or flour tortilla and put sliced avocado on it a sprinkle of salt and a spot of tabasco. It is so addictive you want more!More More! To many calories though to have more

I agree, having an occasional avacado is not problematic, it will actually make it so your offspring and their offspring can consume it more often. I like tomatoes, and I will never give them up, I have something with tomatoes in it one meal a week, I just can't eat it too often, my body needs time to detox. Tomatoes destroy the enzyme that Avacados does.

"Avocado on toast might be off the menu. British and Irish restaurants are increasingly ditching them over concerns that Latin American imports are damaging the environment and funding Mexican drug cartels. Growers in Michoacán, west Mexico, have had their land seized by drug lords who are reported to be earning £150m a year by selling the so-called “blood avocados” to British traders"

Blood Avocado

Food for thought eh ?

One day you think that you're saving the planet by going vegan, next you are supporting South American drug cartels.

Its my favorite breakfast. I usually go with 2 pieces of Multi Grain organic toast, 1/2 avocado spread on each piece with a lil lime and seasalt and then one whole sliced hard boiled egg per piece with coarse black pepper and a lil garlic and onion powder.

I have been wanting to try this, but I always end up eating the avocado right out of the skin with a spoon after I remove the seed. Avocado's are one of the the best fruits there is IMO.

Yes they call it "ham" because it tastes like ham and comes in slices like ham but yeah it's made with all veggies. I like the taste of it and I can eat a lot more of it without worrying about the calories, salt and fat so that's good. Most of the veggie products mimic the real thing. I mean what else would they call it? lol

How about call it fam for fake ham, I looked up vegan ham ingredients and it's pretty Unhealthy, I assume you eat vegan foods because of animal cruelty and not for health reasons.

Oh god....I think I am going to be sick. I will still give a star and flag because I need to experience sickness once in a while, I haven't felt nauseated in many years, I was forgetting what it felt like.

Yuck...Avacado

Something is wrong with these folk, Skorpiogurl.. Avo is amazing. I can eat them right out of the shell. And on toast, yummo. Even in a sammich. Mix in some sunflower seeds and.. *drools*

Damn, now I'm hankering for some, but there, alas, are none to be found.. too expensive at the shops this time of year.

Lmao, same. For greasy tasteless mush, it's sure a delicious thing.

I tried to grow my own from the seed, they sprouted, but soon rotted.. I just can't grow anything.. not even a pineapple.

Fun thread y'all. In Mexico avocado is called poor man's butter. And so yes, it is a fat but we need that in our diet imho. There's a few catches though. They must be ripe or some people have a mild allergic reaction to them, kinda like unripe figs, all the latex. Also they shouldn't be refrigerated it changes the flavor completely and I would bet that the people who hate them that this is what happened in shipping.

When I lived in Paris being from Texas I missed all the flavors of home. At that time there weren't any tortillas or salsas in the stores so I made them at home. The tortillas never turned out great and after awhile I would just take a piece of bread put slices of white cheese on it (butter kase or whatever I had handy) put it under the broiler for a moment to melt and then top it with smashed avocado with salt, garlic powder and salsa if I had any. Yummmm!

Nowadays one of my favorite snacks is to slice a ripe avocado in half, leave it in it's skin, remove the seed and put a dollop of blue cheese dressing or whatever dressing sounds good in the well and serve. Just use a spoon, my Dad loves these avocado halves, easiest salad in the world.

STM

ETA: Several members have posted recipes with lemon added to avocados, it is not needed if you're going to eat it within the hour, it really changes the flavor. I avoid it.
