I am surprised that people haven't suggested that only people who have worked and paid taxes for a certain length of time get to vote.

Come on bringing Hitler into it isn't on Godwins law and all that. The OP has raised a question one I do not believe in but lets not compare him to Hitler for it.

It is fair to raise the question, and it is fair to mention the similarites to Hitler. Am i wrong?

Hitler thought a race of superior humans, should rule the world, cause they where better and smarter than everybody else. The OP suggest a race of superior humans, should rule the world, cause they are better and smarter than everybody else.

Hitler judged by the colour of youre skin, the OP judge by your IQ lvls.

You dont see a similarity here?

Whenever someone suggest to take freedom and the right to vote away from people, you can be damn sure i will speak my mind. And i will ask you again, AM I WRONG?? isnt this the EXACT same thing Hitler tried to do?

I don't think a college education should be a requirement, but I would support a basic civics test.

For example:

Being able to name the three branches of government
Knowing whether it is a popular or electoral college vote for president
Knowing the basic process by which a law is enacted and or struck down
Knowing what the first 10 amendments are called

Same should hold true for those running for office; this would probably negate the eligibility of a fair number of currently sitting senators and representatives.

Not that any of the above is likely to ever happen, we have people in government who are dead set against even proving eligibility to vote via presenting a valid form of identification so actually requiring people to have some knowledge before they're allowed to vote would be anathema.

Hitler also thought only a race of "superior" people, should be allowed to rule the world... You and him got a lot in common, judging by youre ideas, do you like Hitler? Do you really think what youre saying is a good idea?

You sound like a very dangerous person...

Hitler really? First off, I am neither white or male, so let's start with that there. To jump to that conclusion when someone questions the status quo, just shows your lack of imagination.

The largest problem in the modern elective process is citizens voting along straight party lines. You should at least have to put enough effort into learning the names of the candidates that agree with your philosophy.

Allowing only land owners to vote raises the question of HOW MUCH land does one need to own? 1/8 acre? that's the size of most city home lots. Maybe one whole acre. You can buy an acre of sand in Nevada or Arizona for $100. Here out west many people don't really call you a land owner if you don't own at least 100 acres. Where do you draw that line?

Would collective ownership be allowed? What if 100 people joined together and bought an acre of sand for $1 apiece...

If you live on it or work out of it and pay a property tax on it.

It wouldn't be about land anymore, since we are a little different now.

If you own a condo, for instance, you have no real land attached but it is still your property.

The idea of having a ballot with no identified parties has been shot down more than once by Democrats.

I forget which politician on the Democrat side said it was disenfranchising voters, because if you didn't put a party name on the ballot then people wouldn't know who to vote for.

He obviously thought a lot about his constituents.

Wanting voters to make informed choices = Hitler.

That's a pretty amazing leap in logic there!

Did i say that? I was making similarities, cause it doesnt matter if you say people should be white, male/female or have high IQ, it is all the same. You finding a reason you should be more superior and make descisions about other peoples life, because youre better than the people involved... Maybe you should use youre imagination and dont jump to conclusions...

I'm just being a smart alec', JAG.

There are some ideas I like along these lines. I do think filed tax returns are a valid proposal. Even if said individual had zero or below taxable income.

This would sort a lot of hay out from the Horse S# right there! Citizenship chief among them.

ETA - I''ve long advocated mandatory Military service or equivalent time in the workforce (with income and proven tax filings) as a prerequisite for college.

Hitler believed the aryan race was superior. Btw my grandpa fought the Nazis.

I believe all people should vote, regardless of race. Why is it wrong to want people to have education on what they are voting on? A better educated voting base would only be a positive for this country.

Why do we have to take a drivers test? I'm a great driver, why don't they take my word on it? Are they like Hitler?

Ok, you vote when youre IQ reaches 200, until that keep quiet and do what the "smart people" dictates you to do...

Just had a read of your constitution.

In the early history of the U.S., most states allowed only white male adult property owners to vote. Freed slaves could vote in four states. ... These extensions state that voting rights cannot be denied or abridged based on the following: "Race, color, or previous condition of servitude" (15th Amendment, 1870).

For those like me who didn't know.

Ownership of a condo I just posted about.

Not a lot of condos around when the founders were discussing it... what they meant was that you should own or be purchasing where you live or where you work out of.

Because then you have a greater stake in the elections, so you would (hopefully) be more informed about your decision since it would impact you personally.

What I meant about "skin in the game".

What they were really concerned about was a whole bunch of city-dwellers with no ties to the country around them would overwhelm the votes of the rural land-owners.

Which, incidentally, is why they set up the Senate the way they did.

Like i said, i agree that voters should be more informed. But taking voting rights from people, that is something hitler would do.

There is a big difference from telling someone they cant drive on the roads before they get a license, and telling someone that they just have to do whatever you tell them to do the rest of their lives, because you think they to stupid to make descisions themself... you really cant see that?

How would that work in our current... "everyone gets a trophy" ... educational system mentality now???

I mean hey, if you can run fast and carry a ball, or shoot a hoop, you can be as dumb as a Bag-o-Hammers and get through college.
