Yes she was and I had forgotten about that. So I gave it a quick search and immediately found from the first dozen articles on the issue that all charges had been dropped. It was a minor investigation into here using here college job in an illegal manner. So yes, we can assume that it was dropped because of his connections if we like or we can just assume that the investigation did indeed turn up not enough truth in the alligations to look into it further.

So that amounts to nothing unless we want to turn it into something.

And yes, they did go to Russia for their honeymoon. He was major of Burlington at the time , 1988, and the trip was made in the context of that time which was the glasnost stuff that was going on. The USSR was falling apart and it looked like the wall would soon come down, which it did in 1991. His trip was as mayor in a program of setting up ''international sister cities''. So the honeymoon came not so much as a single choice but rather they decided to use his official mayoral trip there to have their honeymoon as well. I mean, why not? Take your gal to a foreign country with lots of history and lots of art and magnificent architecture ans swirl her up with all the excitement of international diplomacy. Sure beats the hell out of a trip to Disneyland, huh?

Sure, and ok. Yes, what moderate wealth he has is do mostly to his royalties in the last few years form his books. My point there being that he does not have great wealth from sucking at the taxpayers teat as was suggested by the post I replied to.

IF we want to go ahead and discount him as a leach as so many here would like to do just because he was motivated politically rather than materialistically, then that is how it can be seen. But this notion that he has no idea about the working people because he never got a pay check falls flat unless we already have him condemned in our own minds. He has worked condinuously since being elected mayor and that was almost 40 years ago.

I guess it is no strange wonder, then, that a man whose only income ever came from the state would advocate for giving it more money.

Now we know why he feels money is so easy to earn so we need to take most of it in taxes. He never actually had to earn money the old fashion way...lol

I dont think it falls as flat as you think.

What are the topics Bernie wrote about?

Would his books have sold at all had he not held office?

Yes, I am of the opinion that all career politicians are leeches.

Political office was never meant to be a full time career. Our representatives were meant to be from among the people so they would have an idea of what honest to goodness citizens experienced and their terms were not meant to last as long as they have ended up being.

If the founding fathers had ever had the inkling the congresspersons would hold office for decades, I have no doubt they would have written in term limitations to the constitution from the get go.

Since they did not, I don't think it very likely that we will ever see them I'm any kind of meaningful way at this juncture.

The problem I have with the Burn man: Is not that he has two very nice houses, did not have to work until 40ish lol, and finally has out of touch i.e.. reality (views)!

No the real problem I have: He sold his whole base out to the Hillary side of the Democratic Party.

Insomuch how can anyone even give this clown a second thought now in becoming Potus?

Well, yeah. As a perfect concept of citizen government I agree. One or maybe two terms and out. However, well you know all the however s. It does go to show though that the architects of the Constitution were not all prescient.

Wait wait wait, lets not gloss over the whole sister city thing. There was no way for Sanders to know what what gonna happen in 88, as it was just a lot of in fighting. Glasnost, in 88 under Gorbachev, was simply an invite for the people to help fix the issues with the system. It wasn't until spring of 89 that the people started to see a modicum of democratic choice.

Its more accurate to say that 1990 was when the USSR started falling apart with the Warsaw states leaving.

So under the context of the time, it would appear that Bernie was going over and trying to build comradery with a full on Soviet city. And that's not addressing his apparent love for socialist/communist dictatorships, like in Nicaragua and Cuba.

Don't get me started on De Blasio's little trip.

Tends to happen when you turn millions into billions.

By your logic, no small business owner ever earned a paycheck, because they got a business loan.

So according to you someone who has never had to have a real job because they work in public service is qualitatively different than someone who has never had to have a real job because they inherited millions from an ancestor.

Your comprehension of that period seems solid enough and I will not argue against that understanding other than to suggest that there was a lot going on at that point that escaped us all. The era prior to the fall of Soviet Russia was a long one, not of communism but rather Stalinism. This gets little shrift in todays anti communism as it is all lumped into one totalitarian disorder. Assuming that Sanders and his belief in socialism is akin to those days of Stalinism and Maoism and that he took his honeymoon there solely because he wanted to vacation and pay omage to the Communist Utopia which of course it was not seems presumptuous to me . I doubt that this could have escaped his understanding either, though of course I could be wrong.

The irony is, half the membership on this website has yet in their lifetime to hold "steady" employment via only one or two employers.

The hypocrisy is actually pretty funny. Being called a loser by equally amount-to-nothing losers is a good one. And says more about the posters than Bernie.

Common sense. NOBODY gets only one job straight out of high school or college for the entirety of their lives anymore like my great-grandparents did in the auto factories. DIdn't even need to finish high school back then. I'm betting it's actually higher than half the membership, though.

You sound hurt.

Why? I voted Johnson and plan to again. Did I bruise your ego or something? How many jobs HAVE you had so far in your life anyway?
