It wasn't like any other Spring I had ever known before. Oh yes, life was bursting forth in all its splendor and beauty. The gentle winds blew forth and caressed my skin as I had longed for through the long, grey, cold dreary days of Winter, but...

It was my last goodbye. I saw him lying there, once vibrant and now so still, so very still and forever silent. While others were busy with their happy Springtime plans, I was leaving flowers at your grave Dad.

A flood of memories came rushing forward of laughter and love, of music and the ocean we both loved so dearly, of all the things you taught me, all the wisdom that you held. We loved nature didn't we? We loved Spring, the tall wide spreading trees as leaves sprouted, song birds that flew high in the air and rested on branches, green grass, gardens, crashing waves and the cries of gulls.

I remember all those years ago when instead of joy for a Season, I was filled with the deepest sorrow and loss.

Still, I long for open windows, fresh warm breezes that make the curtains ripple, that I can breath in deeply, flowers I can see struggling through the earthen floor that will come forth and bring a smile to my lips. I know you are at peace and my life is still unfolding. There are new experiences, adventures yet to be and I will be ever present in those moments in time.

From someone who just found out how mortal their 80+ year old dad is, this one struck home. I will attempt to create as many memories as possible and thankfully spring is just around the corner.

beautiful tale

thank you

Thank you so much!

YES, make those memories while you still can. I lost both my Parents and I have no regrets. I did everything I could for them while they were still here.

I wish everyone could say just that. We are all going to leave each other eventually good to be prepared too.

I try almost every day. Daily calls. Going out to their house once or twice a week. Cooking big meals for them while I am there so they have extra for leftovers. Helping with snow removal and mowing/trimming. Just trying to pay them back for the joy and happiness they instilled in me throughout childhood.

But man it is tough. Watching my mom get out of breath by simply walking up the basement stairs anymore, puffing on the inhaler. Seeing my dad deal with cancer and multiple surgeries with more to come. Knowing this summer will be the first time in my life he won't have the energy to bicycle with me.

I just hope I have the courage to stay by their side throughout it all. I like to imagine my strength is there, but you really don't know for sure.

oh you'd be surprised at how much strength you have when you need it the most. I can see by all that you have written, that you will find a way. Your love for them is crystal clear and love is a very powerful thing.

Hi NS. Touching story, and very challenging of you to go in a different direction than standard rebirth.

Have also experienced this, and other types of springtime "passing" .
