Actuators.

The real interesting thing is how they've put a flexible bending material over the actuator gap, haven't seen that before.

Wonder what the life cycle is, or maybe its part of the RAM mainetence.

I wonder what it would take for Taiwan to host a couple F-35s for a week - imagine a message that would send with everything going on right now?

Not to get too off topic.. but it's interesting watching the moves against China within the last 2 years. Coming up we have tariff decisions in mid-December, a special bill handed to Trump with bipartisan support RE: Hong Kong (that China sees as a legitimate threat), it's incredible the moves we are making from where we were 5-10 years ago. I'm thankful and grateful that the tide is turning.

It's also incredible to watch Europe be reluctant to make any rash decisions RE: Hong Kong with regard to the current protest movement (since they are in a market downturn at the moment and they fear economic repercussions) , whereas the United States is standing tall and challenging China outright.

The next Cold War is already underway.

Those canards are going to do terribly unpredictable things to its signature. There appear to be a few issues with the empennage as well that I would think preclude it being in the same signature class as the F-22 or F-35.

It's more like somewhere better than a late F-117, but not as good as an F-22. The canards do affect the signature, once they move beyond a certain point. Against most of their potential opponents, the J-20 will be more than effective. As a tanker hunter, it's going to be interesting.

What kind of threat would potential high-high flying drones with persistent look-down IRST coverage pose to interceptors relying on front-aspect stealth to keep them concealed long enough to get in range for an intercept? I'd imagine this would be a threat to even our 5th gen fighters.

IRST is a threat, but it's limited depending on angles and conditions around the aircraft.
