'Permanent limp', that sounds about right!

Even on good days I'll limp automatically because I 'expect' to be in pain, so I have to go on a pain management course for five weeks beginning next month, I've had it for a few years but only in the last year have I sought help for it as the pain has gotten a lot worse.

The reason I've not sought propper help until now is because I'd naively assumed that the only way to manage it was with drugs, and that's a Road I really don't want to go down,

Yes that is a road you don’t want to travel, there are lots of alternatives to try at least and combination of things is probably best, take up swimming, yoga, and even hypnosis. Diet might well make a difference too, wether it’s alternating your diet or fasting the body has amazing abilities to heal itself with the right attitude to assist it.
Look up the biology of belief while you’re at it.

I find it funny how paragliding was born out of people launching off mountains under their sky diving canopies then the emphasis changed to staying airborne, climbing in thermals and going cross country. only to come full circle and close to its roots when speed flying was conceived. Now there is a wing available for just about any activity imaginable. If you ever decide to take up the sport make sure you do it under proper instruction.

Funny that you posted that, I was going to add I’ve taken up mountain biking as a way to get my fix of freedom with the wind rushing past my face. You won’t catch me doing anything extreme like those guys though. I do love watching downhill racing and admire the skill and shear balls of those that push their sports to the limits.

Extreme ironing lol! Good one, I have a fear of ironing though so definitely not for me.

Yeah I believe complacency plays a large in most accidents whatever it is you are doing. Practicing mindfulness certainly has it’s merits in more than a few ways.

I fancied taking up kite surfing/boarding but like you say it’s an expensive game to get into unfortunately. I’ve nearly always gone with the second hand route with things for that reason. I’m also to landlocked to trail to the coast but I’m sure it might be possible on some reservoirs maybe. Still I think it could be more dangerous than it looks.

No idea mate , there must be a ,no doubt dangerous , way to access that level of the mountain.

Crazy people are great.

Just skydiving gets the question, “Why would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”

This is the obverse, “Why would you jump into a perfectly good air plane”!!

Crazy shiz!!

Anyone else notice the verdant green valley after the plunge off the summit they had to climb down off to clear the rocks?!?!?!

Fnutz!!

That looks like sooo much fun! Something I have always wanted to do..it's on my bucket list! Although, I probably wouldn't base jump into a plane. I'm not that crazy..yet.

That was cool to watch..Thanks!

I did the painkiller thing to excess (cocodomol, paracetamol, ibuprofen) and agree with your plans to avoid them. The NHS will promote pain management once you've been classed as chronic. Take their advice, but try and beat it altogether so you won't need to live with pain at all. I was paralysed on a staircase for 6 hours and could have missed all that fun if I'd tackled it much earlier. I wish you well mate.

The nutcase there is called 'Michael Kollbek.' It's cool to think how diverse we are as a species. All over the planet are these people doing crazy things right now. Swimming with sharks and climbing cliffs with a bag of chalk dust and a smile. I suppose they're a breath of fresh air compared to the lazy food-munchers who've made inactivity into its own 'extreme' sport lol. Hehehe.

Oh god yes, lotsa fun. They're probably simmering on adrenaline for days before and after.

"I'm not panicking!"

None of it comes cheap either! It'll take a special pilot to even consider doing what they did. Goes out with two passengers and comes back with GPS cords for the smushes that used to be the daredevils. "Not my fault..."

Just skydiving gets the question, “Why would you jump out of a perfectly good airplane?”

Someone said: You don't need a parachute to go skydiving unless you plan on doing it twice.

A bad joke - the difference between bad golfers and bad base jumpers is one goes WHACK "Dammit!" The other goes, "Dammit!!" WHACK. I'll get my coat...

@ Gortex - imagine if Kollbek had met this eagle?! Game over!
