Honestly, I would look into Xbox game pass (first month is 1$).

Which means?

Pay to play, and if you don't. You don't get to play?

IF that's the case. I'd rather own.

It's the list of over 100 games that you have access to, think of it as renting them all for a month so you know what to buy.... Just make sure to cancel before the month is over.

Even after the first month its only 10$ a month for all those games, not bad for people who like access to a bunch of games.

A few my personal favourite single player FPS games .

Doom 2016
Metro 2033
Metro Last Light
Crysis 1 and 2
GTA 5 in first person mode

Half Life 2 (getting on a bit but greatness is timeless)

Battlefield V.
No more season pass bs. Buying maps, or unlocked.

We’re getting regular DLC updates, all for one price - the original purchase price.

Add my GT Carignan

Oh and because you have the X, make sure you get Red Dead Redemption 2.
The hands down, best game of 2018 and most likely 2019

I got game pass, and made sure I canceled it.
There’s not a single game on there worth my time.
For me anyways, it’s just a bunch of either retro junk, or games no one bought in stores.
Except the division, which is actually being taken off game pass shortly.
The division was awesome once they got it working properly

Yea, but for 1 buck its not bad for someone new to the scene to try a few things out just to get some direction.

I always know which will be my next big game I'll be playing.

I went from BF4 to BF1 (that got old for me in two months)

I then did Rocket Leauge for a while and The Division (survival kept it fresh).

Then enter PUBG, that's had me for a full year now.

The division 2 will be the next game that takes me away for a substantial amount of time.

Stellaris looks pretty cool too, heres the trailer. It will be next gens console first grand strategy game.

Also if you want an amazing space sim, Elite Dangerous.

Add my GT and browse my screen shots.
They are from planets that I’ve discovered and landed on.
It’s a full replica of out galaxy.
400 billion planets, space anomaly’s, blackholes, neutron stars, etc..
That you can discover, land on, explore, map,
There’s a steep learning curve at first, but once you play it for a few hours you will get a good handle on it.

I think you would like the Farcry games. They're really easy to get into with lots of guns and explosions with good story lines.

I'll second the motion for Doom 2016, I have no idea how it looks/plays on a console, but it is fun!

I also enjoyed Prey and just finished Fallout New Vegas.

I like the digital downloads.... even if you delete it you can redownload it. If a disk scratches or stops working that's that.

Amazon often offers digital download.

You can find some amazing offers on the xbox store personally I mostly download now whenever I can just because that way I know its safe, if I brake the disk I need a new game, not so much of a problem with the downloads because if you delate it then you just download it again next time you want to play. Quite a few other advantages, it doesn't take up any space, you tend to find loading times can be shorter also and you can get the game you want quicker.

Comes with disadvantages, like if you want to trade the game in but honestly I don't think thats really worth it anymore so for me I tend to go for the digital download unless am going to be making a big saving with buying a physical copy.

Ok.

I just read about the disc needing to be inserted every time you wanted to play.

Digital is the way to go.

Next question is external storage.

It's pretty painless now isn't it?

To behest storage isn't a huge issue I think I have 500gb on both consoles and I am able to keep several games on at once on each. That kind of works for me, if I want to play a game again I just download it. Could be rather annoying if you find yourself with a sudden urge to play that one game you played years ago again but for me its never been a problem. External storage doesn't cost that much and you can buy storage systems that are tailored for xbox one.

Am fairly sure all xbox one x's come with 1TB of storage anyway so thats going to keep you going for a while then you can look at other options after

For Xbox if the external storage is above 256gb and USB 3.0 you're good to go.

I run 2tb of external, go as cheap as you can with USB 3.0 and a high read/write rate. I got mine for 100.

I also have a 500gb external SSD for my daily games, it ran me about 80 and loads games faster and renders them smoother.

I dont know why, but I prefer the disc. It feels like I have something tangible for the money rather than a "virtual copy"

If we are recommending Fallout, then I suggest Skyrim. I play in fps mode and still love it to this day

For me the most fun I have ever had in an online FPS
was SOCOM 2.

The moment I most remember though was the first time I saw someone run by me in Doom while connected with a kick ass 19,2k v32 modem.
