This is just heartbreaking.

A family in Spain, went out to have a picnic with their 2 year old child.

Kids being kids, Their son Julen was running around having fun with a bag of candy and a cup in his hands.
Suddenly he just disappeared.
The parents ran over to where he was and could hear their 2 year olds cried as he was sliding down a 15 inch wide borehole, someone neglected to cap after drilling.

A rescue team was deployed to the location.
But because of the small opening, their stuck on how they can get the kid out.
What’s even more sad, is that they can no longer hear the child down there.

A small robot was sent down the hole to get eyes on the scene.
They found the bag of candy and the cup, but it appears the hole has filled in above the child about 250 ft down.

I couldn’t... nor can I, even imagine what the parents are going through.
They already lost their other child at 3 years old to heart failure.

A day that was supposed to be about making memories for the family, became a living nightmare.
This happened on Monday.
Im praying they can get the boy out alive.

Such a sad and horrific accident.

Shame on the miners for not filling it up.

One can have hope that he is found alive, but I fear that he is with his older brother in a much more peaceful place than earth, which isn’t too devastating to think about.

So sad for the parents. I can’t imagine what they are going through in terms of grief. Blessings to the family and all involved in the rescue.

8 inches!?
My god. That’s horrible.
It’s a miracle she survived. And that was only 20 feet.
Ron Short - a man born without collar bones offered to slink down the hole and pull her out.
Jeezes, the dudes got a slithery talent.

Probably drilling for a well to draw water, but ya, shamefully/criminally negligent.
I hope there is a positive outcome

I think that’s enough internet for tonight, I’m going to go hug my 2 year old son and try my best to not think about what I just read.

Is there any chance that boy will survive?

The Simpsons episode where Bart drops a walkie talkie down a well and pretends he's a kid named Timmy that got stuck in the well. I don't think they actually sent the monkey down the well, though. I think Krusty gave a sandwich to Mr Teeny, his chimp, to take down the well and Teeny promptly ate the sandwich.

You'd think they'd be able to get someone small to go down there?? They can't widen the bore hole and drilling a parallel one for access could place a risk of collapse on the other.

The parents though. What they're going through, and the not knowing, must be horrendous.

The rescuer would be in danger of either causing a cave in or ending up trapped, themselves. Not to mention how insanely narrow 15" is.

Cavers go through tunnels that narrow if they're small enough. That's if it's really 15" because the images make it look less than a foot wide.

I've just read it happened on Sunday which dials the hope down considerably. What a very sad story.

That's so sad to hear. I can't imagine what the family is going through.

Who the hell thought it was a good idea to leave a 350ft deep by 15in wide hole in the ground? That's extreme negligence on someones part. Ultimately I would think the property owner would be the responsible party. Sad no matter what though.

God keep this child in his arm's and if he hears our prayers please let this child be saved and restored to his family although he may already be with the lord if the hole has caved in.

A terrible thing to happen and a terrible way to lose a child AND terrible and terrifying for the little boy.

It is possible the hole WAS capped but someone removed the cap for some reason, maybe it was just a stone over it or maybe even a metal cap of some kind but it should have been filled in, if left by this by someone then they are a disgrace to leave something so dangerous.

edit on 16-1-2019 by LABTECH767 because: (no reason given)

Just heard on the radio about 3 kids that passed away by being trapped in a fridge, now this.

Man, my son just turned 3. I can't imagine.

Just can't.

They are trying to reach for him by digging sideways through the hill, should take 2-3 days.

Poor little guy!
