Am I missing something here with your electrified fence idea. I know you're a deep thinker; where is the electricity going to come from. A whole new grid and transformers is a major infrastructure undertaking?

If we're seriously considering the idea, you don't have to electrify it that much.

A very low level charge in segments could relay continuity, it could give real time indications of breaches.

President Donald Trump has repeatedly advocated for a steel slat design for his border wall, which he described as "absolutely critical to border security" in his Oval Office address to the nation Tuesday. But Department of Homeland Security testing of a steel slat prototype proved it could be cut through with a saw, according to a report by DHS.

A photo exclusively obtained by NBC News shows the results of the test after military and Border Patrol personnel were instructed to attempt to destroy the barriers with common tools.

And 99% of the people who are trying to get into the country do not cross where there is no wall. Rape would seem like a picnic compared to struggle of entering places where there is not a wall.

And apparently all eight of the prototypes (according to the article) were fairly easily breached.

Trump, in a news conference this morning, said it was "a previous administration's wall", which is not correct.

Liberal logic...

Three inmates escaped from Alcatraz, therefore prison walls don't work...

No one has ever claimed a wall is fool proof. The point is 99% of those approaching the wall won't have the tools or time to actually breach it. Would you rather have a wall that stops 10,000 attempts but maybe allows 50 to get through or no wall where all 10,000 can run across the border?

You can run an electric fence off of solar panels or even batteries, the energy to build the high voltage only slowly bleeds off unless something conductive touches it. A power line could be run along the inside of the wall or fence, whatever you want to call it. A shock from a fence does not kill an animal, it gives a hell of a whollop though, I touched one when I was a kid....cool experience. I learned never to do it again from one time.

I wonder if the cameras that will be attached would see the activity of people cutting into the wall?

See, this is why a big giant concrete wall might be best. I didn't figure you for a Trump supporter, but you go girl.

do you all think trump slats will be the "best" because he knows more about slats than anyone?

lol

immigration is down but let's build a wall they can go under, or over, or through! yay!

it's full on comedy.

All they used was a common metal saw. They cost less than $20. Again, tunnels, will be dug, people will find easy ways to climb, and drones can deliver drugs, over a wall, in less than a minute. Now we see saws....LOL, See Saws.

makes you wonder about the existing fencing put up by Obama huh? What a dumbass.

Once they breach the wall and get into the mine field their progress with take a major setback. The guy next in line might have a change of heart.

"99% of those approaching the wall won't have tools or time to breach it". The wall would be 2000 miles long. Once in place, Tunnels will immediatly be built (there are alread a ton of tunnels), people will find easy ways to climb, and DRONES are perfect to deliver drugs from one side to the other! Less than a minute, and a drone could carry a great big stash of drugs, over the wall.

You don't think the Mexican drug cartels, would invest in some drones, capeable of carrying some real weight? Its a no brainer.

And airplanes can be brought down into buildings with box cutters. But somehow. most of them aren't.

something that isn't being considered is that if someone is standing at the wall and having to saw through it, it delays their entry into the US. If we patrol the border, then that delay could increase the chances of us catching them prior to their entry.

If you are looking for perfect solutions, i'd redirect your attention to the rest of governance as well. When I discuss ACA and how terrible it is, i am continually told it was the best that we could come up with. No, not perfect. And in that case, i'd assume you find it acceptable?

All i ask you apply the same standards when evaluating your politics.

If you weren't so short-sighted, you would realize there is more to border security than a wall. The wall is to prevent the bulk of illegal entry from the southern border. The extra stuff the Dems are talking about is to catch the stragglers that actually do get past the wall. The Dems think they're smart, but the critical thinkers are just laughing at these clowns.

The Isrealie concrete walls have stopped, by Isrealie reckoning, 1,000 bombings of varioues types per year, since they were put up, perhaps America should copy the Isrealie type walls ?

Do you think the deplorables care? They just want to win....... They don’t really possess the mental horsepower to logically think things through. And it’s well past time that we stop coddling the mental defectives. a reply to: Byrd

How would it stand up to being rammed by a Bulldozer ?

I have no experience with bulldozers, but I suspect rather poorly.

...and in thinking (briefly) about it, several things occurred to me: that the bulldozers would probably be operated from the US side since getting a bulldozer across the river or across some of the other terrain is not logistically easy and drug dealers do have the money to buy/rent/transport something like that. And secondly, there's not much you can do to make it impenetrable.

In lieu of a WALL how about a desalination plant using water from the Pacific? Then dig out the Rio Grande to make it 'un swim able' and have big turbines sucking in power and then disperse the water and electricity (Inexpensively) to people on BOTH sides of the border?

Run the water from the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico? It would provide JOBS (both sides) make crossing unlikely unless an Olympic type swimmer; provide WATER (a humanoid NEEDS this to live) and hydro electricity...

I mean a w i d e and DEEP river w/YUGE turbines that will suck in anything nearby...
