To think that most people are not in debt is delusional. I realize that may not be to the employer. Good point. More clearly, they are slaves to the debts they have accrued.

Debt does not make people slaves, unless it's akin to debt bondage/bonded labour, which is still practised in some crap-hole parts of the world. If you take out a mortgage, or a loan, then you do that voluntarily and it is a business arrangement. In the context of the OP slavery is employment.

The biblical proverbs about the borrower being a slave et al, is just that - a proverb. In biblical times this probably was akin to bonded labour as the ultimate collateral was the borrower.
