Ocasio-Cortez suggests individual tax rates as high as 70%

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is drawing attention Friday for suggesting that the wealthiest Americans ought to pay a tax rate of as high as 70% in order to fund a “Green New Deal.”

She's using very technical terms such as "tippy tops" too, very impressive start to her new career:

“You look at our tax rates back in the 60s, and when you have a progressive tax rate system, your tax rate, let’s say, from $0 to $75,000 may be 10% or 15%, etc. But once you get to the tippy tops, on your 10-millionth dollar, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60% or 70%.”

Very few paid those exorbidant tax rates so they were pointless.... second, this dimwit doesn't know the difference between income and wealth. The uber rich like the tech titans and people who are worth hundreds of millions and billions don't really have "income" hence they'd be unaffected.

She'd wind up taxing the bejezus out of doctors, lawyers, and businessmen who are basically the "working rich".

What is hilarious is this brainless broad was complaining she didn't make that much as a congresswoman, yet the congressional salary of $174,000 puts here in about the top 2.5-3% of wage earners in the country.

That's awesome. In NYC that comes to a tax rate of 82%. I'm sure the Uber Rich of New York don't mind only keeping 18% of their income.

Raising taxes alone is not enough. Something has to be done about restoring the free-market so we have competition to wring out inefficiencies in exorbitant CEO compensation packages. Plus free-markets would increase wages and lower retail cost of goods and services.

I'm not sure raising taxes back up to 70% would do anything about this which is the real problem:

It really doesn't matter what we pay in taxes. What DOES matter is the purchasing power of the worker making the median wage. As money gets concentrated into fewer and fewer hands it becomes worth less and the economy contracts.
