Do you think it's possible factions of the military are acting upon their own motives?

I know that South Korea has a very different loyalty complex in their society. It doesn't operate on a hierarchy like other Asian countries, but more so on an individual basis.

It's very interesting seeing the far east evolve their tradition to assimilate into the modern world.

The nuance around that is incredible. On one hand you have people protect eachother to the extent of judicial recourse, and on the other (you're the person that can correct me if I'm wrong here) you have Korea implement English speaking in the cockpit to circumvent customary tradition in exchanges between subordinates and superiors embedded in their language.

Too much “historical/traditional ancient hate” in that area, one way or another they will jump at each other and possibly causing WW3 for sure.

Hate is a choice. Japan is one of our strongest allies after our unrestrained assault on them in WWII.

Germany is the power player in the EU.

It's entirely possible it was just a captain acting on his own too. Someone that doesn't like the Japanese for his own reasons.

Trump has been all about our allies pulling their weight, and about US companies getting a fair shake in trade. Well, Korea and Japan are both buying KC-46 tankers from Boeing, and F-35 fighters from Lockheed. Japan is even looking to sell their license built F-15s back to us, for us to resell to, probably, another Asian nation wanting to upgrade their military. They are also now the largest international customer for the F-35 after their recent add on order.

Yes, he is defiantly selling some weapons to people.

But that doesn't mean he will commit our military to help anyone.

But he might.

It's an unknown. Wildcard.

The Southern Koreas and Japan are stable, and will never see war.

Stupid war mongering at its finest.

He's far more likely to support allies that are doing what he wanted to see, which both Japan and Korea have been doing. Japan has been increasing their spending over the last few years, and have changed their constitution to allow selling weapons to other countries. They're doing exactly what Trump wants to see. And Korea has a military based largely around US made equipment, and are buying more, which again, is what he wants to see. So he's far more likely to support them than to throw them to the wolves, or ignore them.

There is no speculation needed. Japan and S. Korea will never war, nor be at odds with one another.

Any suggestions otherwise is absolute stupidity.

But who do you think he would side with if the two of them started fighting each other?

It WILL NOT happen.

This is what I really think.

No way japan and s korea fight each other.

But someone asked what they thought trump would do if they did fight each other.

I said , " who knows?" trump could side with nether or one. Or both?

Read a history book.

Spoiler alert, many people living in the moment didn't see the future coming.

Ignoring possibilities is ignorant.

It's a wild card because we haven't had to commit our military to help out allies.

Unless you're speaking of the Kurds. It's sad they remain loyal even though we've pulled support at the first time of convenience many times before.

Truth be told, with all our power, we can't change minds in the Middle East with the methods we've been using... I think that's been shown via results.

S korea is no joke man.

Super modern tech over there.

I think it would be close but yes japan would come out on top.

Unless japan is foolish enough to fight koreans on korean soil.

I know one thing for certain the Japanese of 2018 are a pacifist people that will refuse to fight a war.

Japan is a pacifist nation.
They would prefer to surrender than fight in my opinion.

There population is dwindling and the largest cause of death is suicide.

I have lived in Japan for over a decade and they actually America will fight their wars for them if anyone attacks them. That is truly what people believe here in my opinion. The fear of war with forigners and violent conflictis strong here.

However recently they have started a large amount of defence spending as the status quo they are required to pay for their protection has been uped by the Trump administration. I doubt there will be any conflict with Japan they are buying the weapons because they have to.

When the North and South Unite , which is just a matter of time , Cheap Labor and High Tech will make " Korea " a Economic Powerhouse Around the WORLD . The Japanese know this Well , and Dread the Possible Implications of it . Even China will see this Obvious Threat to it's Economic Survival . Korea makes the BEST " Stuff " Right Now ...

This exactly.

Have been to Japan, SK and China. SK is culturally best positioned to succeed in my opinion. Japan is confined by not only its resources but its culture.

China, they still have quite a ways to go culturally in my opinion as well. They can copy the heck out of things but I still see many things they are lacking on.

NK, it seems they are meticulous, dedicated and even educated (although brainwashed) I bet they would make a good fit for doing a ton of manufacturing at prices that would make even the chinese blush.

Long ago Japan thought the US gave them a tacit blessing to invade Korean peninsula. They were wrong then and they would be wrong again if they think the US would support them in a war against SK.

There are strict limitations on Japan's offensive military capabilities.

I would hope so. It could get really ugly if North and South Korea made a pact against Japan. That could bring China into the mess also.

China, S Korea and N Korea will always have hate in their heart against Japan. It has never gone away.
