Violence drives immigration from Central America

A recent report from Doctors Without Borders (MSF) states that these Northern Triangle countries are experiencing “unprecedented levels of violence outside a war zone” and that “citizens are murdered with impunity, kidnappings and extortion are daily occurrences. Non-state actors perpetuate insecurity and forcibly recruit individuals into their ranks, and use sexual violence as a tool of intimidation and control.”

Organised violence is ravaging Central America and displacing thousands

The sheer scale of population displacement is breathtaking. Hundreds of thousands of people have fled the so-called northern triangle – El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras – over the past five years. More than 161,000 people from these three countries applied for asylum to the US between 2011-2016. At least 714,000 more are internally displaced.

Who cares? I don't. Shoot every border jumping enemy combatant on sight.

And leave the bodies there as a warning.

I live here, yes. Fifth generation but not a "native." My great great grandfather (from New England) retired here and became a subject of the King.

Let me tell you what happened in SA.

Should I really, maybe not.

So there's this suburb called Clifton, pretty rich and I guess historically mainly white.
It's set along a very scenic beach though.
But most whites don't live here.

Anyway it's a rich person's idyll, until a private security firm chased people off the beach on Sunday.
They said they working with city cops, and there were two claims of rape.

They chased away people including politicians, and despite the fact that people of all races were chased off the beach, it became a racial issue.

Then black radical groups came and slaughtered a sheep on the beach (yes, a poor innocent sheep!).
Although it appears they just brought a poor, dead sheep, and kinda dragged it along the beach.

They said it was to cleanse the beach for their ancestors from what they perceived as "white racism".

Then an animal's organization pitched on the beach to counter protest.

Then the two radical groups were at logger-heads.

Just watching the hate speech (a lot of which was homophobic, and I guess I can't show), and the implied intimidation.

Here is the thing:

So is it the buck stops here, or do we continue to ignore the mess that was created by the USA from the past, in hopes that it will go away, and what will be the consequences of each choice?

The reality is that much of the migration that we are seeing are the result of US policy in the region, going back to the late 1800’s and continued up to this very date. From the business and the US military used to enforce various policies, to aid that kept dictators in power, to the shipping of US problems back to the various countries, this all has culminated to what all we have going on today.

This is a mess from the policies of the US, going back years. And should we turn our back on that mess, because it is no longer convenient or shall we actually do something to clean it up?

Not sure, but apart from the Khoisan (the Bushmen and Hottentots) no Bantu or black Africans lived here at the point of colonization.

I figure most of them from our Eastern Cape Province, or what was once known as the Transkei and Ciskei.
None of their ancestors lived here.
Ultimately they migrated here from what is now thought to be Uganda.

I'm not even judging who's right or wrong.
But the level and quality of public discourse has just become sad.
Not just sad, but downright terrifying!

Not for me to say whether a border around the Western Cape would help.
The indigenous community - the "Khoisan" community must decide.
But voting with their party next year.
And yes, many of them believe in a more federal state with more internal borders.
Their only other option is to be settled by the Bantu, and another form of very aggressive and demeaning colonization.
