Media Player and VLC haven't been playing well together, so I was looking at other options... the best player I ever used was Winamp... alas, it was discontinued a few years ago.

I discovered that Winamp is back... Best Christmas EVER!

I am a bit of an audiophile, so I prefer FLAC over MP3... FLAC on Win Media Player is a total pain, and VLC gets twitchy when using mixed codecs (on my Win7 partition... VLC works just fine on my Linux partition)

Winamp is the only player (in my experience, anyway), that works with all formats, and zero issues. It easily manages large libraries, the playback quality is phenomenal and the visualizations are awesome

Version 5.8 was leaked, so the good folks at winamp.com are offering a free download of a safe and stable 5.8, updated by them.

If you are a Winamp fan, it's a Christmas miracle... if you have never used Winamp, you are missing out.

Thats awesome! Winamp was the best for audio but i never liked video playback. I like MediaMonkey too cuz it does a grwat job of organizing your library. I didnt know winamp went away tbh, but im glad its back. VLC is still prob better for video playback tho, yes?

You just made my night!

For so many years, WinAmp was the only music player that I would use, hands down, until it finally discontinued. The customization alone made it more than worth it and the quality was just so good.

I never had any problems watching DVDs or other visual media on Winamp, however, I don't use it for that purpose very often. I have used VLC to watch visual media, but I honestly have seen no real difference in quality between the two...

I've been putting it through the audio gauntlet... Pink Floyd, Yes, Rush... total eargasm.

I told my wife Winamp is back, and she tore her clothes off and jumped me.

This has been a good day.

Install the best visualizations: Twisted Pixel, and Gforce. I know it sounds just like the NVidia video card, but for reals, its mind blowingly brilliant math like Einstein snip.

VLC plays ANYTHING, even incomplete files, with no codec's.

Winamp for sound tho... its nice not having EVERY single media file possible all open in ONLY one single player. Sound and video should run on separate appies.

VLC does a good job. But I used winamp years ago on my older computer.

My current setup is Foobar2000 through a Schiit ETIR as a USB interface leveraging the DAC on an Onkyo A-9010.
With that system I wanted to maximize sound on a budget.

Next iteration is going the opposite way with a McIntosh MA5300.. lol

My audio card is a 24-bit Audigy, I normally use my Bose headphones.... if I want it loud, I have the fiber optic cable plugged into a Kenwood receiver... it is rarely used...

When I really need to escape reality, my car has a Bose sound system... and it goes to 11

If you wanted to go true audiophile then you wouldnt be using a TOSLINK cable but rather a USB with a better DAC or Coax leveraging the DAC on your receiver.

I however am not one of those audiophile people that says things like that.

THe number one thing about music, if your system sounds good to you then everyone else can go to Hell! lol

Yikes, VLC? I detest that obnoxious software lol. Why does no one use media player classic which is included in the klm codec pack?

It plays everything. It's just not pretty, but it's functional.

Having said that, WinAmp was the go to mp3 player for everyone I knew. And yes the visual plugins were the best. Hopefully all the features are retained. I actually downloaded an older version a while ago, and it didn't suffer any issues.

Lets go see what they've done !!

I think I have used the Kenwood 5 times in the last two years... the TOSLINK works fine for such limited use. Most of our friends are tone deaf, anyway... I wish I had a bit of expendable income to upgrade, however my wife decided that we needed horses more.

It really whips the llamas ass!

I sure do miss my flac collection. Younger me couldn't afford proper backups. Older me can't afford to replace what was lost.
