Firstly NO the world would NOT be a better place, of course it is a subjective point and depends upon what world you wanted to exist.

Before wealth from the NEW - (it may actually be the old but that is another debate) - WORLD flooded into Europe enabling Europe to built up it's defenses Islam which had been (and still is) at war with Europe for over a thousand years was getting every stronger, looking to expand despite the bloody nose that the Turk's once received by the gates of Vienna and had a booming trade in European slaves for everything from sex slaves to manual slaves, they also at the same time enslaves millions of black sub-Saharan and east African's over the same time period (an illegal trade which is by many account's still going on today) and just like the horrible but mercifully comparatively short lived European trade in African slaves these slaves be they white or black were treated utterly horrendously, often worked to death in farmers fields and force marched across deserts in the most awful of condition's.

So had the America's never been settled, formed into new and powerful nation's etc then I am afraid I have to tell you that all you could look at for the world would have been a backward world (the industrial revolution would never have happened and there would have been no need for steam engines when slaves were so much cheaper), a world divided between factions of Islam and a few surviving nation that might - might? have still been independent of it's influence but barring a miracle - which is the only reason that Europe survived the invasions in the first place - Europe would have first fallen and then been forcibly converted to Islam with a religious tax placed on the remaining Christians and Jews and there right's stripped back - that is unless the Islamic forced had followed the example of the moor's of Spain (which had fallen just prior to the discovery of the new world) instead of the Turkish model (it would have been Turks that would have led the invasion so doubtful that the Moor's of Spain would have served as the model) since unlike the Turk's the Moor's were surprisingly enlightened and tolerant of other religion's (well I suppose they had to be for when they were not fighting with the European's they were trading with them).

If the US had not have existed then there still would be wars. The Japanese empire would be in control of China, Korea, and most of Asia including the Philippines and Hawaii. The Third Reich would be in control of Europe and the British Isles as well as Finland and Sweden. Who knows who would be in control of the Americas, most probably Mexico and Canada.

Mexico and Canada would be in constant conflict along with the Nazis and Communists in the eastern continents.

China is the biggest polluter in the world. There would be no US economic aid. If it isn't the US having conflicts all over the world to protect their interests. It would be the Nazis, Communists and social democracies causing world wide conflict, which would be much worse than it is today.

Over at Quora and Historum, no and if they did then they had good reason. In fact they love to glorify that they stopped slavery earlier than America did and brought civilization to their colonies.

And yes, a lot of them on those sites believe that the many problems the world is facing is America's fault. They sort of have a similar motto "leave the world alone and they'll leave you alone".
