James Fields has been convicted of first degree murder in the death of Heather Heyer along with eight counts of malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop at an accident involving a death. While his defense tried, they just couldn't convince the jury that he was acting in self defense, or was just in a state of panic even.

While a good part of me is happy as a lark that the guy has been convicted, there's a part of me that is rather sad. The guy was more of a kid and well, threw is whole life away.

The death penalty is too easy a way out, a more fitting punishment is life without parole .

Have to admit that I'm surprised by SOME of this outcome. For example, I think it was pretty clear that had he 'stopped at an accident', the crowd would have ripped him apart.

About all the other parts, fair play.

he still has the federal hate crime trial to go through. all these were tried on the state level which means... no pardon for him!!! at least not by trump. I suppose the virginia governor could, but don't think that is gonna happen. maybe they can move the precious statue into the cell next to him, just to give him some comfort.

I don't know if they would have ripped him apart or not, but I can understand why he would have been too scared to stick around because of the crowd.

More fiscally responsible, too, under the current structure of DP case law.

triggering value?? heck, more than likely he isn't that nuts, but you have no idea just how irked I would be if he tried to!!
but, it was something that has been kind of stuck in a corner of my mind, to the point that I was relieved to find out that hey, it's state level, he can't.

I want the death penalty for all murderers. Is that consistent enough?

It seems like more and more young people are afflicted with mental illness and/or acting out their hate and not thinking about the consequences of their actions. The church shooting Dylann Roof (21), the Florida school shooting Nikolas Cruz (20), the Aurora Theater's James Holmes (24) and Sandy Hook's Adam Lanza (20), just to name a few.

While the motives for mass murder vary from perpetrator to perpetrator, since the Columbine school shooting in 1999, there has been a remarkable consistency—if not uniformity—in the age, gender, and race of the people who carry out these egregious crimes.

According to FBI arrest data, the peak ages for violent crime is 16–24. "This is a period of substantial transition in an individual's life, when they're less likely to have significant attachments in their life that deter them from criminal violence,"

I bet James Fields would like a do over for that 5 minutes of his life.

I doubt he thinks his 'statement' was worth the punishment and lifetime of guilt.

There's plenty that went on many aren't even aware of. Why did they "spontaneously" march around the South part of Charlottesville after the Alt-Right event had broken up ? Who was leading the march ? Who are the Democratic Socialists (Ocasio-Cortez is one) ? What about the Leftist professor from NC who claimed he chased Fields down 4th st carrying an AR 15 ? After the crash another man was chasing Fields car up the street with a pistol in his hand - did he point that at Fields as he came down 4th street ? why were cameras set up on top of the balcony of the corner restuarant on Main an 4th ? At the same time another camera crew was set up on the 3rd floor of the parking garage - all in wait for a unplanned march nobody knew where it would go? Did the State Police helicopter video the car crash before they themselves crashed? was it transmitted live back to VSP ? This is just a few of anomalies and questions surrounding the car crash that probably weren't even discussed during the trial.

think the guy with the ar 15 testified in court, his account didn't match up with field's location according to his cellphone. and no, I really don't know what I am talking about when it comes to the tech of it. I'll try to locate the article that had that tomorrow.
by what I read, the counter protesters had permits for two locations in charlottesville for that day. that spot was kind of between the two spots. or something like that. what can I say, its been over a year since this happened.

I heard he was just trying to leave the event after protesting. Once he got in his car to leave, either antifa and/or the police moved traffic signs to corral him to where he got in a situation where he could not escape & that the police were not doing anything to separate either side of the protest but forced them to clash instead. Antifa surrounded his car. As soon as one of the antifa members flashed a gun he tried to hightail it out of there and ran over the woman. Imo, police & antifa are just as responsible for the woman's death. Imo, anyone who attends these types of protests is looking for trouble and deserves whatever happens to them, regardless of what side they're on.

According to CVP 4th st Southbound was closed that day. Video of leaving alt right shows cop car at corner of 4th. Neither Fields or the 2 cars in front of him should have been there. The maroon Dodge van in front was there for 5 minutes while the driver briefly got out and took pictures.
