Whenever the proles reject the political orthodoxy, as in the election of Donald Trump or Brexit, the elites can dismiss it all as the remnants of
uneducated bigotry and xenophobia. This is, after all, what they've taught themselves to believe.
But this demonization absolves them from good faith, from having to grapple with real and valid criticisms of their established order as they are
expressed. And to confirm their right-think, all they need do is point to their own cadre of ultra-rich celebrities, athletes, and CEOs, most of whom
are eagerly clapping along.
That’s why we should be weary when some lickspittle claims “the world is laughing at you”, because by "world" they mean the members of their own
class (or the class they are seeking allegiance with), while the rest of us remain largely hidden from their gaze.
When too much ink was spilled about the chuckles President Trump received during his speech at the UN General Assembly, the elites took it as a sign
the world was united in laughing at him. But this “world” they spoke of was actually limited to the other members of the UN general
assembly—political elites above all—and no one else. This is patently obvious. They were never reminded, nor did it pique their conscience, that
some of these members represent dictatorships and theocracies. No matter. The belief that “the world united in laughing at Trump” had already made
its circular rounds in the press and on popular television, which are the only preconditions to belief and reiteration.
No, the world was not laughing. These details never matter, in any case, because the point isn’t fairness or accuracy, but signalling membership and
allegiance to their fellow travellers (this is easier to do if you employ a flashing "applause" sign). But this example of gross conflation between
their small coterie of fellow elites and the rest of the entire population of earth is indicative of how they really view the world, namely:
conformity versus heresy, right-think versus wrong-think, themselves versus everyone else.
It’s no wonder, then, that Brexit, the election of Donald Trump, and other blows to the orthodoxy came with such utter disbelief and subsequent
anxiety. The elites and their supporters have convinced themselves that their social and moral supremacy was the result of their propriety and not
their economic standing or political power. They cannot fathom that their own arrogance and snobbery had more of an adverse effect on their political
goals than any fake news or Russian facebook ad. In short, they didn’t look beyond themselves and their Twitter feeds long enough to see world for
what it is, and not how they wished it to be.
Totally agree and can't add much. Hopefully, the real world recognizes that the Elite's bubble is leaking from these recent punctures and unless the
'elite' recognize that all the huffing and puffing is for naught while those punctures are left unsealed, they will surely self implode. So far it
seems like they are even ignoring many inside their bubble pointing this fact out.
Best to Take a breath and look forward to a few more worldly puncture holes to keep them busy hyperventilating. Perhaps more will decide it is better
to step outside the bubble and breathe the fresh air of true freedom. It will often clear their heads having been inundated by the oxygen reduced
atmosphere within.
I still can't believe the adoration for past presidents, especially Obama, and the gleam in the eyes of their loyal followers. Reminds me of the same
crowds that watch these ridiculous forms of entertainment.
They get all glassy-eyed watching Colbert.
Or any other show propangandizing to the masses.

I sometimes think the ruling class forgets that the people that built their gates and walls will be the same people that tear them down.

That's right. I think there is a lot to be optimistic about. Even if Trump and Brexit utterly fail, it has effectively destroyed the politically
correct moral order. We're having conversations now that would have been unthinkable just a decade ago.
there are several versions of the planet happening depending on what part of the socio economic ladder you're on. if you're lower you are in a totally
different world than if you're higher and neither can relate to one another. this is a major problem and if it continues to get worse the rubber band
will eventually snap back
They were the representatives of every country the world has. And they laughed at Trump. In short, the world laughed at Trump.
But I don't expect someone who thinks there is a homogenous group like "the elite" to understand that...
Trump would so be part of that if it existed. Rich and powerful as he is. But no. He is your hero and therefore against "them".
I don't want to insult you but you earn a trophy for all the mental gymnastics you showed

It's a nice example of how the working class is craving for leadership, keeping itself down if you will. In a democracy the majority is "the
elite".

And did you laugh along with them, friend?

So wait, you're telling me that Trump rewarded the very same people who are supposedly against him? Why would Trump reward those elite CEO's with a
trillion dollar permanent tax cut if they are trying to make him into a laughing stock? If that's the case then he deserves to be laughed at because
he is an utter buffoon.
The cognitive dissonance is staggering.

I think it's a grave mistake to entertain the idea that the electing of the Annoying Orange and the Brexit Fiasco are against the wishes of the elite.
Its a lie those who supported such political moves tell themselves but in reality we've played right into their hands.
And the whole world wasn't laughing at Trump, the people in America who voted for him weren't, everyone else was.
Just like everyone was laughing at Darth May when she said in Parliament this week, "Let's take a look at how we got here" the difference was even
some of her own party and general public that voted for her were laughing at her.
