George H.W. Bush in 1991 USSR Coup saved us from Armaggedon!

This Saturday December 2nd 2018 passed away one of the Presidents of USA with more extensive political career in high positions of responsibility of modern History.

George H.W. Bush was First Ambassador of USA in the Peoples Republic of China during Nixon Administration, Director of CIA during the Ford Administration and Vice President during the two terms of the Reagan Adminstration.

His role in politics, either in the domestic arena as well as in the international one is being matter of Analysis this week.

I want to bring my modest contribution to that so difficult task providing my attention to two events that I believe were of outstanding importance of his Presidency.

The first one was his so prudential and serene attitude during the crucial 3 days of the coup d'etat of August of 1991 in the USSR when General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev was kidnapped by the ploters.

Those hours were extremely important for the world peace in such a way that is not exaggerated to compare them with the 3 days of the ultimatum given by President Kennedy to Premier Khrushchev in 1962 to remove the nuclear missiles from Cuba.

If USA diplomacy would have recognized the coup in Moscow as certainly French and Germans did, probably all the achievements in democratization gained during the Perestroika and Glasnot should be lost for ever.

A new era of decades of Tyranny, in the best style of Joseph Stalin times, may have fallen over not only Russia, or only over the ex USSR countries but surely over all eastern Europe.

The decision to never remove support to Gorbachev was definitive not only to save his life but restore the constitutional rule and in less than 4 months to send the Soviet Union for ever peacefully to the annals of History.

A civil war in the Soviet Union would be the worst kind of scenario by sure somebody can imagine, since their nuclear arsenal could be used to repress rebellions by the coupers or to try to regain governability by the opposers to the coup.

Hundreds of potential nuclear detonations were prevented through a smart diplomatic move, explosions that could release tons of radioactivity over the whole planet.

That points out to his second important attitude to support the request of President Boris Yeltsin that in the dissolution of the USSR all those nuclear heads must be moved to Russia.

George H.W. Bush by supporting during the Soviet Union coup the resistance of Boris Yeltsin and the vital political role of Mikhail Gorbachev in my opinion shows the American Diplomacy at its finnest moment of the entire XX century.

I was able to open this thread and You could post that thanks that there was in August of 1991 somebody with enough brain in the head in charge at the oval office in DC.

If a nuclear civil war might have exploded in the USSR at that moment were not going to be just two political sides fighting each one the other with nuclear bombs but soon or later other nations supporting them.

Chinese leaders didn't like at all the Perestroika and they recognized soon the provisional government integrated by the plotters.

France, Germany and Japan all gave recognition to the conspirators, that Gorbachev was overthrown and were already negotiating with them when G.H.Bush was still refusing to consider that as a fact, and sent them a clear message that America never recognized their rule over there USSR.

Actually, this is the exact instance I point to when people (mainly liberals and the left) white-knuckle their pearls and virtue signal till the cows come home about how egregious and evil the Russian meddling in the 2016 election was. Like, how is what they did any worse than what Bush did as described here? I'm not dancing on any graves here, but I believe H.W. was incredibly wrong in his decision making regarding the installation of Yeltsin and overthrow of Gorbachev.

The irony here is that the U.S. essentially installed Putin by proxy, the man himself who has become the chosen boogeyman of today's NSDAP-equivalent.

You really think the people that plotted the coup of 1991 were going to be better to deal with that what it was Mikhail Gorbachev, who by the way is Nobel Peace award recipient or Boris Yeltsin who recognized the independence of 14 new States coming from the disintegration of the USSR?

For how long Texas or Puerto Rico have tried to be independent from the USA? Check that please, and also read about the Civil war.

The problem is not what ever his successors might have done, the point is that such recognition of independence was granted clearly under the condition that never any of the new States would be at all involved in any foreign military alliance.

Since the time Yeltsin rule was over Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, became members of the NATO, as well as Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and that is not all, backing the insensate and irresponsible policies and ambitions of Angela Merkel we recognized a coup d'etait in Kiev and supported a civil war in that country plus to have done the same in all the former allies of Russia in North Africa and Middle east !!

This also including a Revolution against our main ally in the region: Egypt!! putting in risk with that Israel National security.

Who has been behaving irresponsibly and violating with no consideration or respect international agreements of any kind?
