They are very lucky indeed if it's done by a doctor, lots aren't.

Female genital mutilation is one of the most uncivilised practices imaginable. For it to happen unchallenged in any half-decent country with a legal system is an affront.

FGM is not like male circumcision, so don't get lost in comparison.

In most FGM the entire external sex organ is removed. It's a disgrace. It's designed to keep women subservient, controlled and remove any enjoyment of sex. At best it's an act of extreme child cruelty that has life-changing implications.

You American's and your "constitution".

Hope the ruling is appealed and overthrown.

Your reasons why it's bad are simply false. There is zero evidence for reduced sensitivity.

The primary reason for female genital mutilation is to take the pleasure that woman can experience from sex away, the belief of the savages whom commit this act is that it make's a woman more faithful and less likely to have sex with other men so is actually a form of enslavement.
It is a traditional tribal practice and has no religious purpose that is carried out by mainly Islamic tribal people's such as those in Pakistan, Afghanistan etc.
It is also an indigenous practice among many African tribes.
Most men within these cultures were it has been practiced for generation's do not know what a woman's body is supposed to look like since there experiences is only of woman with most of there outer genitalia removed often leaving only a tiny orifice, this can and does also complicate child birth as well as increase the potential for genital infection's among the female population, it also rob's those woman of most sexual stimuli.

It is a cruel, barbaric and NON religious act carried out to make woman subservient and docile or that is the intent.

To outlaw this inhumane practice would in no way be against the US constitution since it is actually a tradition NOT a religion or a religious mandate unlike male circumcision which is merely the removal of the foreskin.
The closest analogy to a male version would be not only to remove the foreskin but to completely remove the tip of the penis entirely.

I think this judge need's to be removed from office.

The federal law was passed in 1996 under the Commerce Clause of the Constitution. The federal judge ruled the banning of the procedure under the clause was unconstitutional.

“There is nothing commercial or economic about FGM,” Friedman wrote in the opinion. “[FGM] is not part of a larger market and it has no demonstrated effect on interstate commerce. The Commerce Clause does not permit Congress to regulate a crime of this nature.”

It's ridiculous how they (the US) believe the hype about the 'health benefits' with male circumcision, It's absolute spin and lies to make more money from parents who have just had a child. They don't have tax funded healthcare like every other developed nation in the world, if there was a definitive medical benefit from male circumcision then every EU nation's health system would do the same, they don't, neither does most of the world.
It is barbaric, not as bad as some of the forms of FGM, but barbaric nonetheless.

Actually it DOES have a slight preventative benefit as far as Aid's is concerned.
It all has to do with specialized immune cell's called Langerhans cell's which you have on much of your skin but which are richer on the foreskin.

However it does leave the male genitalia open to other infection's and there are a number of health related complications to circumcision (male circumcision is Circumcision - FGM is NOT circumcision it is wrongly called female circumcision but has very little similarity if any at all).

Unlike Female Genital Mutilation male Circumcision is used to cure some medical condition's often in childhood were it is fairly common for boys' to be born with foreskin that is too tight AND it is also a religious mandate of some of the world's major religion's.

Only aid's as far as I know, other STD's it may actually increase the likelihood of contracting.
The langerhans cell's are part of the immune system and aid's directly attack's that so uses what was meant as a defense for your body to it's own advantage.

There's also reason to be skeptical that encouraging more circumcisions in the US would meaningfully reduce the STI rate when you look at how we stack up to Europe. In Northern and Western Europe, rates of HIV are lower than they are in the US, despite the fact that most American men are circumcised and most European men are not.

Only the judge was a Regan appointee. The rulling was made on grounds that it's a state matter not a federal one.

To be fair I think that is down to a higher literacy rate and higher living standard's in much of Europe than in the US.
