Multiple people reported shot near Mercy Hospital

Authorities were reporting multiple victims in an “active shooter” attack in the area of Mercy Hospital on the Near South Side that brought out a large police presence Monday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to near the hospital, 2525 S. Michigan Ave., about 3:20 p.m.
There were “Reports of multiple victims” in the attack, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet.
Fire officials called an emergency medical services Plan II, sending at least 10 ambulances to the scene, because of an active shooter situation, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Authorities were warning people to stay out of the area. Fire crews were at the scene.

Reports a police officer was shot and in critical condition !!

If the neighborhoods anything like the Mercy Hospital neighborhood here shootings are normal and so are the walk in's with lead in them.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. The savages sometimes try to finish the job at the hospitals. It's happened on more than one occassion where the shooting continues on at the hospital.

Heck, Chicago gangs are shooting up each other's funerals too. Just a couple of weeks ago, a local "rapper" was shot at one of his homies funeral.

While I do not live directly in Chicago, I am going to personally know people to responding to this scene.

Gun violence in Chicago is nothing new, but this situation is being reported as a active shooter inside the hospital. It's different.

This one hurts more than normal. Too close to home.

My mom works at an even more unsafe hospital in the Chicagoland area. Makes your mind wander.

Is it in the hospital? Cause if so I have seen SWAT teams in action before in training scenarios and they are efficient AF.

Witnesses says it started inside and moved outside. CPD is moving reporters and interrupting live feeds because the area is not secured.

Must be multiple shooters because this says police reported the perp was shot down.

A witness on channel9 said they need more gun detectors !!!

They believe there was a original female "target".

How many times have we heard that before about multiple gunmen , then nothing it was all a lone gunman

Sounding more and more like a domestic issue. Perp shot a nurse who might be wife, g/f, ex, or something like that. When confronted with the police he shot at the police hence multiple hots heard.

Agreed. It is pathetic that I am relieved that a 'mass shooter' did not target a hospital.

Still deeply upsetting for the female and officer involved.
