Following the horrendous fires in California President Trump shared his musings on the fires and recalled a conversation he had with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto regarding forest management while visiting the scene of devestation.
According to the President Mr Niinisto had told him that although Finland is a forest nation they avoid such disasters by raking their forests.

"I was with the president of Finland, and he said: 'We have a much different [sic]..., we're a forest nation.' And they spent a lot of time on raking and cleaning and doing things, and they don't have any problem," he added.

But according to Mr Niinisto....

"I mentioned [to] him that Finland is a land covered by forests and we also have a good monitoring system and network," he said.

Heikki Savolainen who is the forestry director of the Finnish Forest Association said...

"Those statements were very interesting. I see raking only in my own yard. It belongs to yards and parks,"
www.bbc.co.uk...

A Finnish person showing you don't need a rake these days.

And a giff of Finns showing how group raking should be done.

A good mulcher would be good for the forests, you could drive it through them and level things up. Who cares if you run over a ground hornet nest, it may piss them off but remember, Hornets do not start forest fires even though their stings burn like hell.

Someone here said that in California people are not allowed to remove dead wood from the woods. Seems to me that chipping that stuff up would be a good idea. I think that their government has a lot of irate people in it that think they know way more than they do about things. They strike back immediately when challenged just like Trump does.

Why not just burn down all the forests all at once?
Problem solved, problem staying solved.

The price would drop...the Cartels would lose money...all the legal dopers would be flush and happy...hungry...but happy...

Win win...

There are many reasons why the guy shouldn't be President but he is , doesn't mean we can't have fun with it though.

Sure you can, if one could call policing another man’s speech fun. I wouldn’t make a habit of it, however.

The thread is just for fun but as you asked...
1: He's a liar.
2: He's inconsistent.
3: He's a vindictive spiteful bully.

Other than that he's just perfect , now go rake them forests !

edit on 19-11-2018 by gortex because: There's an H in thread

In my state they have managed burns all the time. I am not sure why that is a problem anywhere else. The native americans did the same thing. I remember reading somewhere once that early colonist would state that they never came across any wood where they couldnt walk freely from one end to the other because the native americans managed the forests so well.

that's as big a mystery....ahem, as this [grass] fire that occurred on [Federal] property which, despite that, our leading gaffe artiste, who didn't even know the name of a place there, wanted to unload blame on a state that he is so jealous about.

However, there are still those like me who think he's a lovely guy.....now, where's me grape!

Trump was talking about taking better care of the forest floors, working with environmental groups, up until he said “rake”. Guess which part the anti-Trumpers will remember.

Well of course. Everything is exactly as stated all the time. Never nuance or abstract - well unless it's what their own people say.

You're talking virgin forests here. I have actually seen near virgin forests and in my area of the deep south and the trees grow so tall that they shadow out virtually all of the underbrush and there is actually very little to sustain a forest fire there. And yes, a person could walk freely throughout and see very long distances through the timber. I couldn't kill a squirrel in the tops of some of those trees with a 12 gauge shotgun. And believe it or not these types of forests were not actually beneficial for the deer populations in this area. They limited the browse undergrowth the deer needed. These virgin forests were aw-inspiring to walk through. I miss them.

It's all of the immature forests that raging fires devastate.

Don't think what he said is wildly funny but the Finnish peoples reaction to it is amusing.

At least I didn't go with "Trump misremembers again"

Having just raked the mass ejecta of numerous old hard woods I applaud their initiative and resolve. From a couch where I'm recuperating and cursing all leaves that fall upon the ground.
