Last nght around 10:30 my cell phone rang and displayed a number (+7 885 432-96-43). I was in the bed shortly before it rang and didn't get up to answer the phone so this morning I checked the log and this is what I saw. I immediately thought, international call so looking it up I found that it was most likely a Russian number from area 7 but the 855 is not listed in that area.
Zone 7: Parts of the former Soviet Union

en.wikipedia.org...:_Parts_of_the_former_Soviet_Union
+7 – Russia
+7 6xx / 7xx – Kazakhstan
+7 840 / 940 – Abkhazia - see also +995 44

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I first thought scammers from Russia but for reasons I can't mention, I'm also wondering if my personal financial information has been hacked from somewhere on the net.

Got any answers, or advice?

Edit: Didn't know where to place this. Mods move if needed.

Everyone I know has been getting overseas calls lately, don't answer them, they are either trying to sell you boner medicine or it's the IRS calling to tell you that you're about to be arrested.

Try this.

If it's a known number it will tell you more.

It's not the IRS. The statute of limitations has run out long ago for them to come after me.

Well, in that case, if you need the boner medicine, answer the phone.

I have a very good Medicare drug plan. Won't order boner meds from the net. I fear it will make my boner rot off.

It's a scam.
I'm still waiting for my Kazakhstani mail-order bride with a 4 year supply of boner meds.

If it was from Russia, it may have just been a Trump campaign robocall.

They are getting started early for the 2020 race.

That's why they throw in the boner meds as part of the deal.

Had the CRA call and threaten me that I was going to jail if I didn’t send them $500 in iTunes cards lol.
Myself and 2 buddies called the phone number back at 40 times over the span of 2 days.
And did nothing but harassment and verbal abuse.
It was actually pretty fun.

I just got multiple calls & a text from peurto rico, first ever international call. I have never heard of telemarketers paying for long distance calling to scam money. I was curious if this happened across the country or just locally. I see it is across country now.

939-228..

A possible theory though I highly doubt at this point It is true, all you need to do to hack a device is to contact it. No pick up is needed for contact. They are probably just set up hackers from a foriegn adversary gathering information on civilians. There again, It is probably not true, this stuff happens to people all the time without going noticed so it would be nothing out of the ordinary.

If it's important they'll leave a message or keep calling.

I never answer unless I know who it is.

If the gov't wants you they'll come meet you where you are lol.

Cops alleged Da Boss and his co-conspirators had access to the Holy Grail for any Internet-age scam artist: a surveillance technology that police and debt collectors use to track most of the United States’ 325 million inhabitants via their Social Security numbers, license plates, address histories, names and dates of birth. The mass-monitoring tech, called TLO, is a product of the Chicago-based credit reporting giant TransUnion,

How An Amateur Rap Crew Stole Surveillance Tech That Tracks Almost Every American

O n a June day last year, a skinny, dreadlocked 29-year-old rapper known as Tony Da Boss lay in bed in a redbrick apartment on a tree-lined street in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was not the kind of place you’d associate with a million-dollar criminal conspiracy. But Da Boss (real name Damonte Withers) was a leader of the FreeBandz Gang, an amateur hip-hop crew of twentysomethings who were into much more nefarious activities than laying down tracks.

I've gotten calls from 3 different numbers that have Chicago area codes.....but they are speaking Chinese.
Or Japanese or something, I don't speak either so can't tell which it is. It's a robocall and they start talking as soon as I answer.

shut down my land line a while back because most of the calls received were this BS and discussed these types of calls with the co rep. Asked her if or why they can't stop these types of calls. She told me they can do nothing about them...

Most of the boiler room setups use voice over IP. No long distance charges. Make 100 calls and find 2 suckers. They are making real money and it nearly impossible to prosecute across international boundary’s.

I use a call blocker on my android where I can go back to the call log and add any number to the blacklist. I blacklist any unknown area code/callers that attempt two times or more to reach me.

My SO, otoh, has all kinds of weird bloatware on his phone, never blacklists just ignores, any text sent to him might end up never delivered or get sent in duplicate (I once told him we needed foil, and the message was sent to him over 30 times - we must really need that foil!)... Keep your phones clean people! No wonder his battery lasts maybe 8 hours on a charge

I used a call blocking device on my land line but since they started spoofing #'s it just became a pain in the ass and the land line became just another expense I didn't need on a now single fixed income.
