Wow what a mix. You have a pack of dogs and need to assert yourself as the leader. Dogs understand simple words,; figure out the leader of the pack and carry some small treats on you. When they start barking, say "no barking" with your hand in a stop position (be firm and assertive, not angry). Zero in on the pack leader, when he/she quits barking give a treat, a pet and say "good no barking". If and when the others do the same give a treat, pet, and say "good no barking". You have to be consistent. The more you assert yourself with treats and consistency the more they see YOU as the pack leader. Good luck to you.

The world seems to strange now, almost everyone I meet has several dogs even People who barely feed their kids and feeding Dogs is not cheap let alone other care. Why do they need so many. My Dr has 5 dogs says I am selfish because I have no dogs, love dogs, but I like animals to live natural I don't think this whole "pet" thing is good for animals. Especially the caged birds.

So is My Dr selfish because he does not take in 5 foster kids our county has no place for tons of them? How about sharing bone marrow or giving a kidney. Who decides who is selfish. If People stopped getting all of these animals there would not be millions put to death every year.

Noooo, not a Chihuahua!! Those dogs compensate for size with noise. I bet it's the instigator. They're meant for very affectionate deaf old people.

Australian shepherds are hyper. V. Smart. You could train it in like 10 minutes, I bet.

Ive never been a fan of dogs personally. One dog requires more upkeep than three cats. And they # all over the place whilst eating everything in sight be it # or otherwise.

Dont get me wrong, i like dogs. But # keeping one as a pet let alone five. More power to ya.

past experience has taught me that when you have more than 2 dogs you get
exponentially more problems. Food fights and "monkey see monkey do" behavior
being the most common

How did you end up with 5 of those in the first place? You should find them a new home, it´s better for you. I once had a cat and it was hell. Even though it could go outside and had everything else, was also entertained, it still was a crazy bastard that destroyed stuff in my home that went into the thousands (€). Electronics, furniture, window seals, walls, doors etc.

My nerves are much more calm since I´ve found a new home at a lovely lady (not animal shelter) for it and it was good for both of us.

The cat changed for good and suddenly was okay with other cats and I don´t get the bloodpressure through the roof again. I have had dogs all my life, I know an animal will destroy some stuff here and there, no big deal.

But that cat was from hell, it even looked like Hitler would, if he reincarnated. Sometimes you just don´t fit with the pet, your responsibility is then to look for a better home. Because they can´t.

Hope you will find your peace. BTW, such behavior is often with dogs that are not socialized and are taken out seldom. If they don´t know what a car door is or never experienced traffic, of course they will go bonkers. Not saying this is the case here but think about it.

You can train dogs to even do their dumping in a specific place, same as with cats.

unrelated to above
Often, the dog will take on the traits from the owner. Meaning, if you´re nervous all the time, the dog will feel that and adapt, for example. Dogs are pack animals.

Plastic bottle with a few coins inside might keep them out of your immediate personal space.

Little shake and it's off to bed.

Thanks for the replies everyone. As to why so many? Not sure, I guess they've just kind of collected them over the years, heh.

Yes the little guy is definitely the instigator of the group; he's usually the one who starts in on something or someone and then they're all putting their two cents in. And my God is his bark shrill and ear-piercing. Even thinking about it makes me wince.

I do use ear plugs to get to sleep most nights. The one issue though is about halfway through the night my head aches from the things so I have to take them out.

I'm going to try and sit down with the rest of the household and come up with a middle ground. I'll mention about singling out the leader and working on him so that the others will follow along.

You guys are awesome and thanks again for all of the suggestions.

That Aussie and that blue tick mix are going to need lots of regular exercise. They are working type dogs. Well, the blue tick is a hunting dog, but it works out to the same. Technically, labs are hunting dogs too, and they are prone to energy issues also, but they have more of a family bent.

How much exercise do they get? If they don't get a lot, like a long regular walk. If their minds aren't properly exercised with training and some kind of work, then they are going to be prone to bark a lot.

Might I suggest that if you perceive stars on abovetopsecret.com posts as a validation of self worth...you might put the computer down and get out more? I mean, really?

OP. I have two 60 pound staffy mixes. One barks at more odd noises than the other, while the other barks at people close to his yard (lays watching out front door). I’m willing to bet all 5 of those dogs at your place are lacking in exercise, physical and mental. As someone much smarter than me wrote - if you choose to have large working type dogs, your primary job is to deplete their batteries every.single.day. Since I read that and walk my older dog one mile a day and walk/run younger one 3-4 mikes a day, barking is almost non-existent. We also practice obedience daily...sit, down, stay, come, off, etc. Dog behavior is usually the product of their owners engagement in controlling that behavior.

Your post makes it sound as if these are someone else’s dogs. Have you discussed with owner(s)?

I hear you. Maybe they are picking up some vibe from me I'm not aware of. I'm not opposed to changing how I... uh groove? Not sure what term to use there.

#1) "Kratom" for You and Your PTSD. This has helped My PTSD by 100x. I've found the "Malaysian White Vein" to be the most help. It also helps w/Chronic Pain.

therenegadepharmacist.com...

isum.com...

#2) WALK the dogs. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS tether the 'alpha dog' first. This dog also gets fed first. This lineage should already be developed in said "pack".
In My current 3 Dog Line-Up, the hermaphroditic AffenPinscher "MagWai" (also smallest dog) gets fed first; leashed first and also sits 'up front' in the GTI on the way to the dog park.

*As soon as You start taking them for walks to burn that ENERGY, they will see that You, the "Pack Leader" has Your SNIP together and they will no longer be living in FEAR. When You lose Your 'snip' do the dogs tear off into another area of the dwelling?

#3) Watch some Cesar Millan, He'll be doing the same stuff I typed about above.

#4) Walk some more. This will be BENEFICIAL for ALL CONCERNED.

I have never had or wanted a pet.

I agree that endless incessant dog barking is very annoying lol.

That many dogs are for a farm. They need that size of area when they become a pack.

You know, they might think it's you driving them nuts.

My dog is a big Labradane and has a big loud voice to go with his size. He barks a lot... for different reasons.
That's what dogs do, they bark, it's how they communicate, like how we talk.
I say either move out or figure out how to deal with it.
Or maybe look into training them yourself. It's not that hard.

I hate dogs always have.

Hate everything about them, barking, humping of legs, dog sh!t on the streets, the sniffing wet nose.

They're not even "cute" most of them, the smell bad, get ticks and all sorts and then moalte all over the house.

Dog owners, who talk about their dogs, can't stand it, "oooh look at this disgusting picture of my little ball of flee infected fur cuddling up to me" or my personal favourite when dog owners try to pretend that their dogs are sentient. His tale is wagging not because he "loves you" but because you give him food. Your family loves your, your dog just wants whatever food is in the shopping bag.

If you think about it the domestication of all animals is pretty twisted, we have twisted nature because we want a cute puppy for Christmas.

So yeah I hate dogs.

Cant actually think of anything I like about them.

Other than the andrex puppy I guess but deep down I know that that particular little mutt has probably caused some poor sod to have to waste a good toothbrush getting scrubbing its excrement off the bottom of a shoe.

I can't believe people are suggesting you move out OP, like you should just bow down to the dog and let it uproot you from your home. Bit of advice OP, don't know if it will work but you can buy these ultrasonic machines that reduce the amount of barking don't know how it works but might be worth a try.

Then you should not give an advice if you don´t know how it works. Because it hurts them in the ears. Great advice.

Like really hurting, not just going on their nerves..
