Except it wasn't the first time -- just the first day of school. The student had been banned from the girls room the prior school year for inappropriate behavior in the girls room. The student was supposed to use a faculty bathroom if I remember correctly.

In an unrelated story, Chasco Middle School has received thousands of applications from politicians, clergymen and ex cons all over the world for their new pe teacher vacancy, and it has nothing to do with the fact that they let you look at potentially naked teenage girls.

I personally would be uncomfortable as a male these days to supervise naked children male or female.

Kind of funny that some people are okay to be in one situation but not the other.

When is it okay for an adult to supervise any large group of other peoples naked children in this day and age?

Is it only okay to look at minor penis?

It's a safeguarding issue, teachers are legally responsible to make a school as 'safe' as possible and not take action that may place students in harms way - in this case violence and sexual assault.

The PE teachers are completely right, the heads are putting students in harms way. In any decent school they'd be thanked for raising a professional concern over their ability to ensure student safety and to be equipped with the training and experience to handle any ad all situations. It's far better to raise it so they can receive more training, professional instruction, ethical help etc... then be scared to raise a concern and a pupil end up as the victim of a serious crime.

I'm all for trans rights but it's basic common sense that fights in school are focussed in either guys locker rooms or the main yard and pubescent boys who have probably only seen a naked feminine image in porn - they're too busy masturbating to have read up on trans issues and accept the pupil as 'one of the guys', he'll be called 'trap' and 'chick with dick', 'I dare you to do 'x' to the trap' and so on.

The teacher won't have any training or experience in how to deal with, appropriate restraints and how to ensure student safety and when to split up fights (i.e is it an honourable, fair fight? Do they need a couple of minutes punching each other to get it outthe system, does the pupil deserve it as they're getting their commupance etc..) There's a schoolyard hierarchy and unspoken laws of the school etc generally known as the school of hard knocks, chat #, get hit it's hard enough for a bog standard new student to find their place. We don't live in a perfect world yet, it's far better for the students general health, wellbeing and education to just use a separate shower facility.

Sooner or later they have to realise and learn to cope that not everyone shares their worldview, you have to be prepared to make minor sacrifices somewhere the same as everyone learns to be civil and understand the difference between an ideal world situation and a real world situation (far more important to learn the real world as it has immediate impacts).

EDIT: He's also got to cover his own arse legally and socially. This policy would obviously be talk of the school on the day of implementation and angry parents contacting the press about the situation where it's more than likely he'd be smeared as a pervert/paedophile getting his rocks off watching kids being treated as Guinea pigs in a social experiment and destroy teacher parent trust.

I don't expect this to really stand.

This type of story is certai nly becoming more prevalent. As an ex teacher, i don't blame the teacher for his actions. I don't blame the female student who identifies as male and, whilst many wil disagree, i don't really blame the school either (they are in a no win position).

I think the way to avoid this is to do away with male and female locker rooms and have mixed with proper individual cubicles (not old style with the big gaps above and also below the doors). However, this would require big investment so won't happen.

This is middle school PE, I don't think they shower in middle school PE. We didn't. Our middle school took 6th, 7th and 8th graders.

We did back in the dark ages when I was in middle school. It was when we started showering.

Bingo! Why do you think some of us don't like the idea of transgender shower room rights? You do have changing rooms like the one you describe where people of all ages use the same space to change. Now you're talking about individuals who of both biological sexes and all ages sharing that space.

That's different from a mother with a boy of less than 5 having to take him in and change him, and how many little boys like changing in the women's locker rooms after 5? Ours was starting to get really embarrassed at the thought of even being in the ladies restroom with private stalls with me (even when I let him do his business in private in the stall) about that age. He was old enough to know that girls went in there and boys went in the other room and felt out of place.

No PE class but surely the parents will object.

Why didn't the administration suggest the obvious compromise?

Institute a scheduled time frame for boys to use the locker room, another scheduled time for transgenders to use the locker room. The PE teacher would be responsible only for ensuring each group left the room prior to the other entering. Not watching while in there, only ensuring proper attendees were in there at any given time.

Just schedule it, easy peasy, everyone gets access, nobody has to "watch" them, and it only results in minor class scheduling adjustments to accommodate the extra time needed.
