Okay...this is BIZARRE!

Here's one for you paranormal guys...

I'm sitting here at the computer and the wind outside is howling making kinda' spooky noises. Outside it's snowing sideways. Inside the house it's perfectly quiet (except for the wind), just me and the dogs.

All of a sudden the TV in the guest bedroom just switches on, volume at 11. Startled the crap out of everyone! The TV was just screaming loud, and it was tuned to a channel that I didn't even know we had. We certainly don't ever watch that channel, and it's not at the beginning or end of the lineup, but somewhere in the middle.

I thought at first maybe one of the dogs laid on the remote or something, but the remote was on the chest right next to the TV. Turned the TV off and went back to what I was doing. About 10 minutes later it does the same exact thing (this time to a different channel)!

So I unplugged the TV (let's see it turn on by itself NOW!).

What the heck is up with that???

Got a brand/partnr of the television?

ETA: Did you got the kids a Nintendo Switch lately? (Settings > TV Settings > Match TV Power State...lol)

The same thing happened to me and my husband when we were adventurous and decided to stay at a haunted hotel, previously a jail house - the TV just came on by itself and the volume was turned way up. Other weird things happened as well, like flickering lights and that feeling that you are not alone, but to keep my sanity, I put it down to faulty wiring.

It's an old RCA CRT type, don't know the model number, probably circa '95. Great big monstrous thing. Made back when all the printed circuits were made out of structural steel I-beams.

Something like that happened to me a looooooong time ago, back when I was a teenager. I was sitting on my bed talking on the phone with my g/f at the time, and my brother was on the opposite corner laughing at us(he was young and thought my gushing over a girl was humorous). During the phone call I kept hearing all these strange whispers on the line, almost as if we had a crossed line(was before the days of cell-phones). I would ignore it until I would hear my name among those whispers, then I would stop the conversation and ask her if she heard it too. She just laughed and said she couldn't hear a thing.

Every time I brought up the voices they would stop, then once I was distracted in the conversation they would start up again. This kept going on for the majority of the conversation, all the while my g/f laughing at me like I'm crazy. After a bit I just ignored it and finished the call. Once I hung the phone up I was just glaring at my brother with his stupid grin, then out of the blue the tv turned on. We both jumped and looked at each other with an expression that said "Did you do that??", until we both noticed the remote was sitting on top of the dresser next to the tv.

That's just one of many things that happened in that house, it was haunted by some crazy old lady. I didn't live there as long as my family did and the stories they told me, ooof, I'm glad I moved out when I did. XD

okay....did you perhaps already change the batteries of the remote. Sometimes when they are near dry they can send out some confusing stuff.

some other lightsource could be triggering the tv to come on but most likely it"s some internal electrical malfunction, like a resistor that's changed value or a defective infrared sensor.

Just thinking along...

Nope batteries are fine. Wife replaced them a few weeks ago.

Room was dark with the blinds drawn and the door closed.

Do you have any other type of IR devices? Garage door openers, lighting, electronics, etc? These can often turn the other device on or off accidentally.

Maybe be on the safe side an lay a circle of salt around your tv set...

Actually, no I don't have any other IR devices that I'm aware of. Our garage door openers are RF (430MHz if I recall).

I've got a line on a real-deal Shaman, he sleeps behind the dumpster at 7-11 in town. Lazy bastage usually sleeps in late though!

Sorry, that's what I meant, RF.

Garage door openers and other RF devices are notorious for turning things on and off. We had an issue at my previous company where our device activated garage doors and vice versa.

Actually you had it right the first time. TV remotes are optical. Garage door openers are RF.

I regularly check to see if any of the (900+/-) porn channels are having a "free weekend"!

Closest I've been able to get is National Geographic a couple times.

ETA - BTW, I love to scroll through the channels on our other TV and read off the titles to tease the wife when she's wanting to watch a movie!

Funny you should post this. Did you lose a close relative in the past couple of years?

The reason I ask is because my wife lost her sister a little over a year ago. My wife has an intuitive gift but doesn't like the idea of focusing in on it for fear of accidentally bringing in evil spirits. I've always told her if I had that gift I would embrace it!

Anyways, the reason your post grabbed my attention was because while my wife was out shopping, our dishwasher turned on by itself while I was watching TV. My hearing isn't the best, so I didn't hear it going on. When my wife came home she asked me if I turned on the dish washer. What? I said no, I didn't even know it was on, lol. She said well I didn't turn it on, not only was it turn on it was set to the "Over Night" setting which both of us never use!

My wife has had paranormal signs revolving around the loss of both her sisters. She's had signs before. Some I have witnessed and have been completely blown-away I made a thread with pictures showing proof of these crazy signs from the other side. Most of us pass these incidents off as coincidences, but my wife has made a believer out of me. The signs she has received from losing her first sister was so incredible I had to make a thread about it years ago. This is the thread I made years ago when she lost her first sister to cancer...
