WTF is the point of secret ballots when the attendant stares at it for 30 seconds b4 scan?

So this really makes me mad. I walk into the voting area, asked my name, have to repeat it 4-5x as they repeat it after me each time as they flip through the book, I'm the only voter there. I get my ballot, I fill out the sheet and hand it to the person at the scanner (sheet is in a folder). She takes it out and stares at it right side up while she tears the bottom off in about 8-10 little tears - taking about 20-30 seconds - then flips it over and runs it through. Now tell me, how is that secret, when I'm the only one in the room who was asked my name over and over (even with ID ready). I thanked the scanner lady and she just smirked and I gave her a big smile (I don't think she liked my vote..?)

When I left she walked over to the registration table where all the workers were at, and it just felt creepy.

Not only that but my location changed from the time I checked at 7am this morning till the time I voted, went to where it said (in online this morning w/ addy check) and then had to go to a different place. Glad I wasn't voting late.

That's frustrating. Sorry you had that experience and glad you had time to get to the right place.

At my voting location, we scan the ballot in our self. We only had the folder and the pen back to the attendant.

You sure she wasn't just checking that all the bubbles were filled properly first?

Inspecting for hanging chads no doubt.

Then when you leave, your name goes on a secret list.

Why can't you just put a "X" or any other mark on a piece of paper, fold that paper and post it in a box?

I didn't want to make more out of it than it was (in this thread), after filling them in I walked over and the lady had her hand out and I opened the folder, put the ballot in one hand, folder in other, she took the ballot, held it right side up, and tore the bottom "reciept" off while staring at it the whole time. I was thinking to myself WTF lady, MYOFB!

If I were doing that job, if I even took the ballot instead of the folder, I would turn it blank side up so the votes weren't visible.

Again, I don't think she liked my votes.

If she is doing that for everyone, they can keep an active tally of what the votes are, regardless of name (even though it was announced 4x to the room!), and ship more in to get the results they want.

So my neighbor who shares my property line went to the other location that the online search said as well. I have to find out where the neighbor on the other side went. If they both went to the same place (that online said was my spot), and I was sent elsewhere, I smell something dirty.

Yeah, it might be too complicated for some people. We NEED that person to collect and inspect all votes when they are handed in.

Right... while members from each party represented on the ballot sit by watch it all happen.

The problem is I couldn't identify any of these people at the tables. One lady had a name tag visible but the signature was worse than my doctors!

Probably scanned it in several times... AMIRITE? Just kidding. You're still alive. Those only count for one vote.

Report the poll worker, if it bothers you that much, but if they have to handle the document and tear off part of it, they're going to see it.

As for the secret-ballot part of your question, I think that's more so that the government officials can't know who voted for whom and use that as a retaliatory motivation.

At my location this morning, I put my own sheet into the scanner, and no poll worker ever touched it. Different counties, different states, different guidelines I suppose.

But seriously, report the poll worker if it was that bothersome.

Same at our polling location, too. No election official ever touched my ballot.

They didn't seem too amused when I put it in and called it "the shredder"

She may have been making sure you did it right. You might have been profiled as one of those people too stupid to get an id.
Surely those people color the single bubble for Democrats. When they saw you bubbled more than one they needed to inspect to make sure you didn't screw it up.

lol no offense just a theory

I had the same experience.

Really annoying, and I got more than a smirk.

You know what's weird. So at my voting place this morning there was that kind of lady too. Some people handed her the ballot to put in the machine, and others did it themselves. Doesn't sound like you were able to.

I did notice that she was trying to peek at mine as I was putting it in the machine but I blocked her view. Of course she could have just been making sure I was feeding it in right, but she just looked like the nosey type to me

They repeated your name several times because someone else nearby was adding it to "the list" while pretending to text on their phone (you said you were the only voter. were you the only non-employee hanging around?) and then after you left all she had to do was go tell that person you're "one of THEM" so he keeps your name on the list as opposed to deleting it. Now their Antifa pals know who's car to vandalize, who's house to firebomb in the middle of the night, who to accuse of sexual harassment, etc. I'd keep one eye open if I were you. Now that I think of it, maybe keep both eyes open. That might work better... (i have a weird sense of humor but im deadly serious about this)

Q warned us to be on the alert for Anything fishy going on. I would say this counts.

So, can you share city or state info with us? I'm guessing a city in one of the "key" battleground races.

I would absolutely file a complaint over this. The privacy of votes is a sanctity between citizen and government and she just stomped all over it with muddy boots.

Mountain ice-climbing/football boots with the cleats and spikes and metal parts jutting off from them. So you could probably imagine what kind of damage would be done by a person stomping whilst wearing such boots, cant you?

Plus they're muddy so... well the mud isn't really going to cause any additional damage, it would just create a bit of a mess that would be rather unpleasant for whoever had to clean that up, but what it was meant to bring to the table is just very disrespectful imagery. It just adds to the disrespect. Adding insult to injury, if you will.

I would take this a step further and say it is downright UnAmerican of you if you let this slight go by unanswered. Fight back and get the entire voting station under investigation. Their phone records need to be dumped, everything.

Just because there are "registered" Republicans there...its not that difficult to register as a Republican. There is no test to really prove it. So Antifa could lie and plot to take over fully, if not Dominate a voting station or two.

Intentionally done, no doubt..

Why is it that nearly every detail of this encounter screams "Election Fraud" ? Oh, right, probably just because its just election fraud. No biggie...

If people have to inspect, then does that mean you cannot deface the ballot paper? In the UK the number of defaced ballots is often a good indicator of voter dissatisfaction with those on the ballot. While I have never drawn a caricature penis on my ballot, I know someone who has!

Here in Michigan, there is a "privacy cover" for your ballot. The voter exposes about 1" of the ballot , feeds it into the machine themselves, and nobody sees *anything* during the scanning process. I would complain my privacy was not safeguarded. A "secret" ballot is an important part of the election process
