www.techspot.com...

"We’re used to hearing about supercomputers such as IBM’s 200-petaflop Summit machine, but the million-processor-core ‘Spiking Neural Network Architecture’ machine, or ‘SpiNNaker,’ is a bit different. It’s the world’s largest neuromorphic supercomputer, designed to copy the workings of the human brain and unlock its secrets, and it’s been switched on for the first time."

Wonder if this interesting piece of technology could address some of the larger questions we have regarding where consciousness arises from or resides?

Certainly, interesting time in which we live.

It'll answer such questions about a microsecond before it takes control of all the world's nukes and launches them

Good one....they'll never come close to the human brain....it has supernatural gates that perform 5 different functions like magic choosing which function when needed, so the optimization is beyond comprehension, and it's that optimization science can't imagine without making a computer the size of the universe....hello Bible

Oh wow this could be incredible.
They will be able to accurately map a persons brain and possibly locate consciousness.
I wonder if they’re previous assumptions will be correct.
Or if it turns out that consciousness isn’t even located in the brain. And it’s found that the brain is just a tool for a consciousness to use when in that specific container.

This sounds like a cue for the old science-fiction story.
Humans to computer; Our first question, is there a God?
Computer to humans; Yes, NOW there is!

I think a new Turing test is needed. If it finds that carrot in your pro pic funny, then it could be sentient

Well soon anyway should AI keep heading in the direction it is going.

Fact is though we have anthropomorphized and imagined a God for long enough, when he did not turn up, we were apt to attempt to create or build our own at some point.

I don't see AI or the singularity it will bring about destroying humanity through, i think it will enable us, and bring about humanity 2.0.

Also considering what's wrong with the world, if AI did ever gain control, it may facilitate us with a far better Zoo than "They" ever have.

Change is inevitable as is the demise of the human race in its present condition.

That carrot is a Sweet Potato by the way.

Humor would indeed be a measure of the Turing test all the same.

We all do man.

But seriously, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks gorgeous as it is.... No need for overkill.

Not to play games, though.

I could spare the work and money that currently goes into the PS3 network for the goosebump spectrograph analysis.

It would look even better on the PC.

As Rockstar are well aware. LoL

1st thing I thought of.

But.....

If it can use advanced logic, combined with intense next level AI, wouldn't it be possible that it 'decides' the human race is inefficient, and therefore must be ended?

Just my 2c

Would you kill your own creator?

If not then why assume any AI would?

My mother has a few issues and has been known to be inefficient at times, don't mean I'm planning on killing the poor Woman.

If an advanced AI decided it wanted to exist far into the future,it could easily come to the decision that humans may prohibit that in the long term.
It may decide that the risk posed by humans to its existence (via nuclear war/grid blackout/terror attacks)may neccesitate the removal of humanity from the earth.
IMHO

Why not just wait us out given our mortality and penchant for self-destruction?

Time may not be a factor considering 1 second maybe like a million years from its perspective, especially if it learns in an exponential manner.

But like i said why kill your own creator?
