That's exactly why I put it in this forum, to avoid that. Oh well.

I think friction between older and younger family members has a lot to do with waning respect, yes, but the older family members are just as much at fault. My mother is of a juvenile mindset, she cannot lose an argument. When 3 kids of 3 completely different political angles throw their hands up over the years and go "Enough, ma" and it falls on deaf ears? That's the fault of the parent still ranting or egging on people like a child. Her dead ex was as Republican as they come, probably would have adored Trump, and he acted just. like. her when it came to someone not interested in the soapbox or disagreeing with the soapbox.

I hate to remind you guys, but age is not a qualifier for respect. I respect my dad because he's a highly respectable, kind and very diplomatic gentleman. I have less respect for my mother because she acts like a toddler. Neither get respect for their age as the qualifier for respect -- even my dad agrees this should be the standard, or it cheapens respect as a whole. It's the older gen's version of a fallback excuse participation trophy -- "I didn't earn it, but respect me anyway, child!"

Read the third paragraph, or says "throughout the past few days" implying 3 or more days had passed since she threw the stamped $20 at me.

Reading comprehension, it helps.

Perhaps what you think you wrote does not match what you actually wrote?
no matter
Was your mother this involved with politics before trump?

Perhaps what you read does not match what I wrote? It's pretty clear when you sit there and actually read it.

Not until Obama was president. That's about the time she started watching Fox News pretty much exclusively. She even has it on while she sleeps.

Yeah, she knew what she was doing to provoke people. Its like watching my own mother thinking she's being clever and smug.

It's obnoxious, she knew exactly what she was doing, rubbing it in people's faces. I love her and we've made up but damn does it still annoy me that she went that far out of her way to do that.

I know it's not much of a consolation but my mother, a republican, conservative, southern Baptist, Texan finally recognized that trump is ....her words..."A white trash, piece of ****" and her bridge club nods their heads in agreement. And my mother never uses profanity.

You should hear what she says about Ted Cruz....I can't even repeat it.

The mood has been interesting lately.

I believe much of the right wing has developed over the past few decades around right wing media. It was all about winning arguments. Truth, policy, governing, etc. started to take second place.

Now they have the reigns of power and still are not happy.

Some are going back to what they know. Arguing, hating the other, blaming....

Some seem confused not quit sure where they are or how to get back to.......whatever they are lacking.

The left just seems silent. Not sure what they are thinking and your not hearing them much.

Ok, um actually the right isn't really in power.

The left is blocking the wall, they are censoring right wing speech everywhere, they are calling us Nazi's and racists constantly with no evidence. You can't watch almost any entertainment without being lectured that you are an evil person if you support Trump.

The Left is silent? What planet are you on, a great portion are hysterical. The left is actively "RESISTING". This did not happen 10% as much during the Obama administration.

You want to know why a lot of the right wing is pissed, it's because we are tired of being lied about, and tired of not being able to reason with the left about facts and policy.

It has become a religious war for most left wingers - facts and reason be damned, Trump is evil and that is all there is too it.

It is more than slightly frustrating because we are forced to live in a society where a great portion are literally deranged.

Does she know that's a federal offense?

If she does then she probably doesn't care.

She's under the impression that Montana is mostly liberal because of what my brother tells her (it's actually about half and half), so it's pretty obvious she was "sticking it to the liberals" while up here in Montana by doing this.

Extremely obnoxious if you ask me. There were 60+ people who liked that post meaning she's probably not alone in wanting to do this, in fact she was encouraged to do it.

Well now you know... and knowing is half the battle.

Are you going to report her and her hateful rubber stamp to the authorities now?

That is an interesting approach.
Did she find any trouble spending the money?
Does she have issues with those who complete her transactions? Cashiers, Waitresses, ect? Seems she is looking for a response. I doubt those are the people she is looking for a response from, tho I could be wrong.

As far as I know they spent just like any other money. Only thing is they'll be shredded and replaced so it is just a waste of paper in the end.

There is something strange going on since Trump was elected. I've never been a political person myself but in these last two years I'm like addicted to it. I feel revolutionary.I get so involved that sometimes I don't even recognize myself. I know for sure that at least on some topics I'm biased like hell and I don't even live in US lol. Those are times when I have to take a break to compose myself and remind myself how silly all this partisanship is.

I've seen this happening with a lot of otherwise moderate people around me, and of course here on ATS. Folks who never cared about politics suddenly feel the need to take a stand. Some strange polarization is taken place and at this point I'm not even sure is about politics.

My mother and I are also on opposite sides of the spectrum but we both agree to disagree. She is convinced that she is right, I'm convinced that I know better so not much of a point in arguing. Fighting with family over politics is downright stupid in our books, and none of us feels the need for that. Same with religion and what not. Family first, then everything else.

But is strange to me how a lot of people have been changed by what's going on now on politics. Once politics were out there, a bubble of noise not many could make much sense of it and only marginally related to real life. Now it's like in every aspect of our lives, everybody is doing politics, there is a big reality show and we seem to find ourselves playing in it without even knowing why. Interesting and disturbing times we live in, that's all I can say.

Ironically, you probably just did.

A loving son would request that this thread be removed.

You should also call her and tell her to take down the FB post and stop using the rubber stamp, not because you're so triggered, but because she's breaking the law.

I was listening to an interview by Richard Dolan a few weeks ago…and in the interview they got onto the subject of politics and how America had become highly charged at that time…and even more so of late...

Anyway, one of them brought up the fact that there had been a lot of couples getting divorced! over Trump becoming President!!…Not sure what the exact stats were…but I remember thinking… Man that is just crazy…

I’m glad you were able to stay on good terms with your Mom...that’s a clear positive to take away from your story...
