funky Ben says 98% chance he fights in UFC

oh snap

Ben has fans? but in all seriousness Ben's never fought a top 5 guy and beaten mostly cans. Hieron was his toughest fight and Hieron is no top 5. and Lima was early in his career. i think he gets smoked by most of the top 10.

I love watching him fight but realistically I think he does nothing in the UFC. Fighting guys ranked #300 will make anyone who does not suck look good.

It'd be cool to see Ben Askren rock up in the UFC. It's now or never age-wise if he wants to add more of a legacy. It's a strong division to walk into and I'd sooner see him fighting Lawler than GSP for starters. On the other hand GSP wanted Khabib and DW said no so it could be a middle way. He was controversial in 2011-12 (He's so boring/he's so great) and I for one would like to see if he could have made it in the UFC.

Ya Funky Ben.....Khabib is history....lol...in fact if Dana lets The BigFunk into the sandbox anything could happen....to my eye Dana White has kept ground specialists who are less than highlight reel technical that are one-dimensional pretty much canned for many years....just seeing Khabib being given easy marks on his way to a title fight just so he could trim Connors hedges with his one-dimensional ground game gave me a bad BOXING taste in my mouth.Maywether is not cashing in again IMHO...it does not help the UFC to be drained of money....it does not help the UFC to bring Boxing fans across the fence...Boxing is pretty much dead now....they are flogging a dead horse....who knows it seems pro Sports ownership on a Global level is facing some new challenges across the board and maybe we will continue to see these hybrid boxing/UFC matches. My self I hope they keep it pure and Funky Ben gets a chance to feed Habib some UptownFunk.

I very much want to see Khabib vs Ben.
I don't see Ben winning this. He is nasty for sure but I don't think he has what it takes to get past Khabib.

You were also sure Conor was going to starch Khabib in the first round.

All of Ben's fights with onefc are free on YouTube.
Maybe give them a watch and see.

I think in a straight wrestling match askren would probably get him.
Not when you mix in strikes.

Maybe one day you will stop hating on Khabib.

Maybe not. Oh well

Khabib clipped Connor on the chin...he can strike...but I also watched GSP get clipped by Matt Serra and Khabib is certainly...lol...no GSP....so I am still seeing a hit by Dana White...he could have thrown Funky Ben in there and Connor would have been in IMHO the same stylistic contrast of the highest degree...specialist against specialist....I think Khabib was the next best thing 2ndary to Funky Ben.

Champions must be respected and Khabib is the Champion.

Yes I have been on a Hangmans roll lately....lol...for sure...but this is the fight game.

I am really excited to see the headgames these 2 would play in the Octagon....lol...Khabib may not have ever encountered someone as LOOSE a Funky Ben....they both like to yak it up in there but Khabib is like freaking wound up about his personal beliefs all the time and sometimes I see him as a zealot...and Funky Ben is well lol just funky.

I kinda miss the groundgame sometimes...I enjoy a lightening quick submission.I think you are right and Ben is more of a purist wresteler than Khabib.....the thing I love is that they both ride their opponents hips and sweetspots/centers of gravity in very different ways...one is controlled and patterned and one is reactionary...both are effective IMHO but I have a favorite.

Khabib would destroy Askren. Let's see how Askren does vs someone in the top 100 before we start calling him champ.

He is. GSP is one of the best strikers in the sport and one of the best grapplers. Bisping, who outstruck Silva, couldn't get anything started on the much smaller GSP.

The only thing GSP lacks is one punch KO power. Khabib is better in top position than GSP for sure, but his overall game is not even close to GSP.

Don't totally disagree.
Gsp has a more well rounded game but that does not mean you are automatically a better fighter. Khabib has the perfect game for the cage though. Askren too but I think Khabib is better at it.

Tony has a fantastic game too with his guard and attacks from the bottom but you still risk taking damage.

Khabibs top pressure game limits that risk. Gsp played heavy top pressure too but I see a lot of differences in the way they hold and ride.

I still say Tony is the worst match for Khabib right now but if askren signs then he is up there too.

Just my opinions.

Hopefully we see it. Gsp said he is interested in the fight but Dana said he would have to beat a top 5 hit first. That might not be something gsp is interested in.

Thats 2 more fight camps and his last one did not go that great.

And can gsp get to 155?

I think we are saying the same thing but using different definitions. I think GSP is the better fighter, but styles make fights so khabib could still win.

GSP is the same size as lw fighters. His last camp was bad because he got UC trying to force his body to get bigger, he's tried to get bigger in the past and failed.

GSP was about 187lb walking weight getting as big as his body let him for WW. Earlier in his career he was walking around in the 170s.

So I see little reason he can't slim a little and make 155.

Yeah I think so too.
I want to see it cause both guys are humble. Will see legit pressers. No conor type bull#.
Both super high level.

Both have fantastic training partners and coaches.

Gsp has firas and Danaher. Rolls with Gordon Ryan and Garry Tonon and the silver fox.

Khabib has Javier Mendez. Rolls with his Dagestan crew and DC, Shawn bunch and ed ruth.

# yeah man.

Too bad it wasn't 5 years ago.

He'll of a way for gsp to end a great career.
He avenged both his losses and if he beats the destroyer??

Hands down goat.

Gsp was never my favorite but always liked him.

My favorite fighters are not often the best.

I like the idea of gsp vs askren.
Winner gets Khabib.

I just don't think gsp wants 2 more fights

I've been calling for GSP khabib for years. It's been my wet dream for mma. Even if it was catch-weight I would be fine because I think both guys would be similar size on fight night which is what it is all about for me personally.

GSP wants money fights and legacy fights and askren is neither right now.

Khabib then Conor, I think that's maybe GSP plan.

why do you think GSP is so far beyond Khabib?

I believe its all about risk....its all about pride and its all about drive...what drives a fighter....Khabiby is a Muslimmaniac obviously....to be frank I don't care to hear about religion in fighting not any religion.....I think Khabib is fighting for the Muslim Nation and that is his driver....I think his pride stems from there not from his inner Khabiby…..I think the levels of risk he takes are commensurate with his fighting for his faith more than himself or the sport...…

I believe GSP is driven by an inner urge to perfect his game to perfect his sport to send a personal message about who and what he is....I don't see GSP clinging to one dimension of the sport I see him stretching himself and being multi-dimensional....I think GSP fights for his Father to make him proud his pride stems from there IMHO....I think the types of risks GSP takes reflect his wish to always empty the tank and to always focus on giving all that he can in all the right places.

I just don't see Khabib being willing to take the same type of risks at the same times in fights as other Athletes and for this I feel he is very lacking and one-dimensional.He mumbles and jumbles and yaks to himself.....lol...GSP is a submission expert....he is elite....Khabib is not near elite he is very good that is it....to my eye Khabiby is a survivor in the ring on the ground and his sole mission is to ride it out....low risk ...get on top...ride it out...no sacrificing top position to show an all round MMA skillset....just win using the single tool available....the slow agonising ground game....the guy is not a ground and pound specialist and he is not a submission specialist...he is a hip-rider who finds your center of gravity and then simply refuses to give it up...but he doesn't really do anything worth writing home about while he is in the saddle.....I am just used to olde school MMA where as soon as it hits the ground someone is being punished mercilessly....well....lol...those fights END NOW....and Khabib he isn't in that league he is not any kind of monster....he is a bareback bronc rider who looks for the 8 second buzzer.

Khabib will walk you down the garden path if you allow him to but GSP he will walk you Uptown Downtown and to Funkytown if he needs to....GSP is better at takedowns than Khabib and he looks for them maybe even more than Khabib does....GSP will HUNT Khabib looking to get him on the ground...even if he doesn't want to keep him there...he will put him there over and over and IMHO this alone is enough that I think it might be a boring fight...GSP out striking Khabib and GSP controlling the takedowns LOOKING for them as much or more than Khabib...and once Khabibys ground game is checkmated....really what does he have left.....even to my eye Khabibs submissions are very basic and not built into a bigger gameplan...he just rolls with it.....he rides first then plans as he goes...I am afraid all fighters don't manage themselves this way and it is what seperates GSP from many many MMA fighters...GSP HAS A PLAN ALL THE TIME....and when it doesn't work he does not abandon it he finds another way to make it fit you...because he is multi-dimensional.

I mean IMHO Khabib doesn't even make it past Matt Huges to get to face GSP....lol....but I will always be attatched to the olde school UFC...and of course the really traditional MMA we all love so much.

That's why I don't like Khabiby….he doesn't try to grow his skillset...he is expert at one dimension one style and he holds to it....good on him...boring for me.But I will not forget him tagging Connor and stepping him back although like I said I watched Serra execute the Punchers chance perfectly...and yes it was fun to see Serra show us that side of the Sport....I prefer the technicians who bring a full toolbox to work with them and who use it.

That said...Khabiby is the main man right now and is in the drivers seat...lets see where he takes us all....I hope it is exciting.
