It could have been the 2 grams of Cocaine they allegedly found.
Or it could have been one of his other weapons, the one with the obliterated serial number.
Or that he threatened to kneecap, then kill hospital workers who were taking care of his wife before she passed.
or that he reportedly stole the M-14 while he was in the military, he didn't buy it in the 80's (he confessed to this, according to prosecutors.)

The drugs are understandable, probably just trying to maintain the military rations he got during the war....

The rest, if true, certainly dont help if not make the case against him. It's not surprising though, his anger, given he was a pawn for the government. If all that is true though, he certainly didnt help his leinancy by threatening innocent people.

Well whoever it was, they're a piece of sh1t. Talk about kicking a man when he's down...

An update as of last Friday by the Dallas morning news..which says..Pick's daughter, Amber Zable is the one who turned him into the FEDs..www.dallasnews.com...

So at least we now know who got the FEDs on him.. The FEDs are saying not only POT but coc aine was found in the residence.. He got he 7 years in a plea deal.. They should have drug tested him for illegal substances.. or were the drugs for his dying wife..? That would have answered a few question right from the beginning IMO.

Either way coke, pot, and what is called an illegal weapon ....this is the result right or wrong..

EDIT to ADD: You guys are fast and thanks for the update about the daughter..

The M14 was never sold to civilians with the selector lock manufactured by H & R. This is what would give it full auto capabilities. For one his original purchase if he bought it without registering with the ATF on the National Firearms Register as a legal machine gun the purchase was illegal. Full automatic weapons have been banned for sale since the 1930s he got around this by buying it at a gun show im sure. However, that does not excuse the fact it was always illegal to own. The m14s that are in civilian hands are from overseas purchases and you have to show the original sale from foreign retailor. You have to show you paid taxes on the purchase when it was shipped into the country and you have to have a dealers licence. Without a dealer license its illegal to own. As a side note, it is very likely it was stolen from an armoury and accepting it can bring charges of theft as well. Now if he wanted an m 14 for display you can buy them they just can't be fired. A non-firing replica would cost say 250.00. He effectively made an illegal arms transaction in the 80s and got away with it.

Since age is not a deciding factor in sentencing he got some jail time. I hate to see a vet in this mess but dont think at the time he purchased it he didnt know it was illegal without registration. Now there's other rules besides ffl license like it had to be made before 1986. Law was passed banning any access to full auto after that date.

When my wife had cancer and they sent an idiot to draw arterial blood.... after the 7th poke with several seconds of digging with no results I asked the nurse to remove the needle. She said she almost had it.. I waited until the 8th poke and told her to remove the needle. She ignored me at which point I told her to remove the needle or I would remove it myself.

I did not speak with a soft tone or in a nice way; think drill sargent.. She looked up and gave me a go to hell look and marched out of the room.

Within 5 minutes I had an armed security guard and the head nurse in the room with me.. The head nurse knew me as I had been in ICU with my wife for almost 3 weeks; I slept in the room and did bandage changes and other things so the head nurse and I were kinda friends.. I told her and the security cop what had transpired and then looked at the cop and said, "what would you have done" ?

The head nurse left for just a minute came back and got the blood sample on the first go..

Once you are in hospital and see some of the idiots that are called health care givers I can certainly understand people wanting to bust some heads..

One professional airline pilot friend/acquaintance had his father in a rest home in Florida.. He had complained about a couple of nurses hurting his father.. Things escalated after many calls and visits where he finally made a threat via a phone call to corporate head quarters..

He was arrested and the last I heard he is still in jail...but that was over 25 years ago ..

So..bottom line.. unless someone has been there you can not imagine how pissed off someone can get while watching their loved ones abused

You can only buy class 3 weapons from a class 3 dealer.

So WHO sold him the M14.

That is the person that should be in jail.

At a gun show in calif i once bought a carbine converson kit that uses a 45 1911 lower for the weapon.
mechtechsys.com...
I had the 1911 CCU carbine for about 10 years and fired it man y times on public land in calif before i found it was and had always been illegal in SBR (short barrelled rifle)in calif.

It says he confessed to stealing the M-14 and removing the serial number.

Personally, I want to give the guy a pass. It happened 40+ years ago. My pops had a lot of stuff he shouldn't have had from the time he was SF during Nam including explosives and various rifles. He never used them for anything except to teach me and 4th of July fireworks. At some point, he got rid of the guns. He probably destroyed them, realizing the amount of sh#t he would be in if by chance he was caught.

He had the evil weed and an unregistered automatic rifle. Not that i care what the man had, but i know that marijuana and any firearm will get you federal time. Much worse if you have an unregistered automatic rifle.

He should have just registered it. I probably would have given him some leniency if he was an alright fella, but nobody has nominated me for president yet. Maybe trump will pardon him.

A M14 is a semi-auto DMR.
And it's a classic..

The M!a was the semi-automatic version and is perfectly legal. The M14 can fire full auto and has always been illegal for sale in the US. As for classic it was heavy and a poor infantry rifle as it often caused people to lose fingers while cleaning. They wanted an all-purpose rifle meaning it did everything just not well. It was designed to replace the Enfield M1917 rifle, Thompson submachine gun, Springfield M1903 rifle. Each of these was better at what they were designed to do for example the Springfield was a superior sniper rifle. Of course, the Thomson held more rounds and higher rate at full auto and the 1903 was a better Enfield rifle. The advantage of the m14 is it could do all 3.

said Brown, the U.S. attorney. "Although Mr. Pick was a decorated veteran, he would use that status routinely to try to excuse his repeated criminal behavior. This was also not a mental health issue. It became a public safety issue."

Pick's daughter told The Dallas Morning News that her father's mental health had increasingly deteriorated as he cared for her terminally ill stepmother, who she said suffered from a rare, degenerative neurological disease.

So the daughter was concerned about his mental health, and I would imagine wanted him to get mental health treatment. Not so sure this is the outcome she was after.

You're sort of selectively reading what the daughter is quoted as saying. First, Pick got taken for involuntary mental health evaluation after he threatened to shoot hospital workers.

Then she point blank says that she and her husband called the feds because they were "alarmed by the amount of drugs and weapons in the home."

Yea, this thread is a real masterclass of ignorance. Many folks didn't want to give McCain a free pass just because he was a veteran and POW but this guy deserves one, despite repeatedly running around threatening people with firearms.

Topped off by lunatics saying that "hey even though this story has zero bearing on me and affects me in absolutely no way, I hope the daughter and her husband both die."

Batsnip insane.

Maybe his relatives thought he was going to commit suicide, with his wife only dying a couple of weeks before. Probably knowing their father they themselves couldn't get the weapons off him so they reported him.
Just as an aside, when using the word VET does not give them god like status, some are good and some are bad. So stop the automatic worshiping of vets.

Ah yes, welcome to the land of the free and home of the brave.

Making America Great Again does NOT include the dispensation of justice and common sense.

A friend of mine is a Vietnam vet, the only survivor in his platoon in a firefight. He's been under the care of the VA ever since, and they now want to take his guns away because of some of the meds he takes.
