People at that level retain security clearance after they leave so they can speak to their successors about issues that carry over from one administration to another. A courtesy if you will that until recently has not caused issues.

I don't doubt that it's also been an issue in previous decades.

However the moment Comey announced she handled classified information with "gross negligence" ( and later edited to "extreme carelessness" ), is the moment her clearance should've been removed.

Given the way the FBI/DOJ handled that investigation I think the reason it is taking so long is the Trump administration decided to investigate the former admin based on crimes committed after he took office. Even though receiving immunity requires the person to fully cooperate, testify truthfully and not break anymore laws. Violate those requirements and immunity is null and everything provided to investigators can then be used against the person.

I just think the DOJ/FBI made such a hash out of those investigations that anything collected evidence wise would not be allowed to see the inside of a courtroom.

I dont think Democrats have any good candidates to run against Trump. Biden is going to be seen as nothing more than an extension of Obama and his policies. An agenda soundly rejected in the 2016 general.

Sercurity clearance isn't the only thing Clinton has lost.

Hillary Clinton was once the face of the Democratic Party, a celebrity name who could draw thousands to rallies and was the all-but-certain first female president of the United States. Now, she is viewed as "the kiss of death" for candidates.

You are almost correct.

However, there are clearances that do not expire, you still get checked on every 5 years, you are monitored and the clearance expires when you do.

That does not mean that you have access to anything anymore (no need to know anymore) but that you have been exposed to information that requires monitoring for the rest of your life to ensure that you do not become a security risk.

So a security clearance of that type is a measure of control as well.

Interesting if she has requested that it be revoked...

That is why I think Clinton will run.

Even though she will be painted as Obama II (like Biden) she can use the "Russia and Trump cheated me out of the White House" lie. She can play on the mindless automatons who buy into it and frame it in such a way to provide a significant challenge to Trump.
