She is beautiful Mike. Gentle kind eyes.

I’m still praying for you and Dada. I hope you have a speedy recovery. Get the doc a username and link to this thread so he can make a report here to all of your family.

Much Love.

Thank you, Doodle.
Much as I'd like an easier way to post here, I think my doc/s would be breaking a whole bunch of privacy laws if they posted here about my case!

Anyway, the ride in this morning was fine. Almost no traffic at 7 am on a Sunday. I've been settled in, signed a stack of forms and permissions as usual, and am now on my fasting regime. I can drink water etc til midnight but no more food.

Op is tomorrow, likely mid-morning. Decompression-style surgery, to remove bits of the herniated discs and relieve pressure on the nerves. The doc said the op takes around an hour, then there's some time in recovery. But all being well, by this time tomorrow I'll be back in my room.

May be hard to post as I will be bed-ridden for a day and will not be allowed to even sit up. But I'll have my mobile by my bed and can send a text message or two.

I didn't realise you were going in today. It sounds like a good plan.
I hate traffic and early morning hasty activity too. Now it's just a question of waking up and being rolled gently down the corridor.

I think this one came from Gordi but I might be wrong.

Q: What's brown and sticky?

A: A stick.

I'll see myself out...

Hi Mike,
It's 8 pm here so middle of the night for you. I hope you're able to sleep well tonight with your surgery coming in a few hours.
Just wanted you to know that I am also thinking about you (and Dada) and am sending my love and best wishes.
I will be checking back to see a post from you when you are able.

Take care my friend. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Take it as easy as you can, until it is time to push and get better Mike!

If you can, be like the parrots, who are the carefree (but michevious) social creatures of the bird world. Hardly ever see them alone, except for this old girl:

Be safe my friend. Sleep well and awaken with hope and no pain

Stay strong Mike !

Hi folks and thanks for chocolates, jokes and good wishes of all kinds.

Well my op has been put off until tomorrow.
They let me know in the usual round-about way... I was supposed to have my op this morning, meaning before noon. Then around 11.30am a sister told me there was a delay in the "salon" (the operating theatre). Meanwhile I was still on my "no food or drink" pre-op regime. I'd had nothing to drink since midnight and no food since six hours before then.

Just before 2 pm (ie half an hour ago), another nurse came in with a tray of hot food for me. Then just starting leaving. So I said, "Umm... I'm waiting for my op."

"Oh, just a moment," she replied.

Half a minute later down came the senior sister and explained they'd had a routine surgery that became complicated and took hours longer than planned, so my op has been re-booked for tomorrow. Neurosurgery can be very tricky at times. Stuff can just happen. That's why they have two theatres here just for neurosurgical procedures. So, while they need to keep one surgical team and theatre on call but free 24/7, they typically have the other team on in the mornings for scheduled stuff. If something comes up or goes badly wrong then the scheduled patients just have to wait til the next available day.

Sigh... So here's hoping tomorrow will be ok. Also, spare a thought for the poor patient whose routine op a few hours ago turned into a multi-hour marathon. I hope she or he got through it okay.

I will have to go through my pre-op no food/no drink regime again tonight and into tomorrow, but heck, it's not so bad. Some poor soul went in for what should've been a short op and has now (hopefully) woken up way later than expected.

So, I count myself lucky. The guy in the next bed in our room is here for brain surgery. Needs a tumor removed. It's benign in most ways but keeps slowly coming back. This is his third time for "open" brain surgery and he's just so accepting of it all. What I have is nothing compared to what he's been going through for the past 14 years or so.

You sound in good spirits, as you allude to ... there's always someone worse off.

Hope Dada is not playing too much on your mind, as you know, there is no stress, as it should be for you both.

I'll think up a crap joke for your speedy recovery.

Unless it hurts when you laugh.
Then I'll need to dig deep !

😎

Dada's on my mind virtually all day. Can't help it. And yeah, I cry a couple times a day, but just quietly so no-one notices. Have to let the hurt ouit a little.

Speaking of hurt, jokes are fine until tomorrow. After my op I'll have to be careful when laughing.

Just us two guys in this 3-bed room now. The other (3rd) guy was discharged this morning. He'd had surgery for bleeding on the brain. Has to have another op but till it's due they've let him go home for a few weeks.

Robert, the other guy still here, is scheduled for a very early start to his op tomorrow. Third time for him, same issue: he has a brain tumor that just keeps coming back. Says the op will take 5 or 6 hours. Could be less but could also be more. His last one went "all day" as he put it.

Sure helps to give perspective. Really nice guy. His wife and daughter came in this pm to visit him. His daughter turned 12 this month and as you can imagine this is really hard for her and all of them. But I could see it in her eyes. This is her one and only Daddy, after all... And he's been dealing with this since before she was born.

Hoping and praying his op goes well. If it goes overtime and I have to wait another day, then so be it.

Meanwhile, any good vibes and thoughts and prayers for Robert are most welcome.

Positive thoughts for the poor soul who had their operation extended, for your roommate and of course for you and Dada.

Well, since Dave ate some chocolate and Wis is getting another box, I'll just help myself to a couple myself. Sorry, chocolate is my weakness.

I admire your attitude and patience. I would be swearing up a storm...no smokes, no food, no liquids...Gah!
