Just you asking is helping me. I'm grateful to everyone for posting positive stuff here.

To be honest, the thought of spinal surgery is pretty scary, but I'm not yet 100% certain if it'll come to that. If the neurosurgeons say they have to, then okay: I know I'll be in good hands. But yeah, it's just the thought of it. I'm simply not very brave, really.

Thanks again to everyone for your posts. This is just to let you I didn't have to stay in the hospital. IOW they let me go home for a while. More details in my post in the Shed thread HERE.

Not writing much more tonight because I only had 4 hours' sleep last night and so I'm pretty beat. But overall, it's been a good day today.

Ah JustMike!

I haven't talked to him in a forever. He was a pleasure to deal with on the boards. Hope whatever he is dealing with gets better and he comes out ok.

Quick update... Was back in hospital yesterday and consulted with the head of neurology. Short 'n' sweet, he says it's "bad". So, I'll be having an MRI on Oct 22nd, assuming I can get by til then and don't have to be hospitalized. (And I will do my darnedest to avoid that.)

He also prescribed me another medication as the fentanyl wasn't helping much. It's also an opiate but apparently packs a bigger punch against pain. Slow release thing. Could take a couple of days before I see its full effects but meanwhile it's helping a little. I can get to the local shop on crutches without stopping more than once, which is such a relief.

Meanwhile I am still having the IVs every morning Mon-Fri at my doc's. The sister is now having to search for places to stick the IV needle in.

I'm trying to stay positive and hang in there. Heck, things could be worse, after all.

So good to see some "old names" here; people I've known via ATS for around a decade or so in some cases, like MBlah, AD, Doodle and others -- and also several of the ATS staff. Forgive me for not mentioning everyone, these darned opiate meds mess with my head a little.

We haven't spoken in a long time (since the quake thread) but you have always been my shinning example of civil conversation and just being a friendly helping person.

Keep us posted. Still thinking of you as always Mike. Though I should be on stronger meds, I'm putting it off for as long as I can. I did have to increase the dosage of a couple of meds I am on. Yeah, meds can make you loopy and I'm loopy enough on my own. LOL

It can be tricky dealing with everything from sleep to showers, and it seems one only learns through hard fought experience. Well, at least my doctors were never able to help much with things like "how the hell do I get decent rest?!" Kinda depends on what exactly is wrong too.

Hope things get better..

Spinal surgery can be a bit scary, but the ones I've had definitely improved things. It also sounds like you have a pretty decent team on it. Count your blessings there!
