Does anyone remember this movie?

The Dark Crystal

I haven't thought about this movie in years. But for some reason (likely because of today's political climate) I just keep thinking about it.

Here are the last three minutes of the movie: (SPOILER ALERT, obviously)

The themes and symbolism in that movie are fascinating to me.

Unfortunately it was scrapped.

Such a great movie, though. Very thought provoking.

it has been so long since I have seen this movie, that I am struggling to even remember the plot. I do, however, remember the puppets, since I thought they looked odd at the time......

I urge you to find a way to see it again.

It's both very dark...and hopeful. So many fantastic themes- many I think are relevant to today. I guess that's why I'm bringing it up here.

Ones of my 80s fantasy favs. They scrapped a second one? Ah, those don't always turn out good, as that's a risky one to try for with the loss of Jim Hensen.

I agree.

Henson, who came up with the concept and general plot, was a genius with this.

Jane Roberts was credited for the philosophical undertones of the film, while David Odell wrote the screenplay.

Hanson seemed really taken by Roberts' Seth Material. He insisted Odell study it, before writing the script.

The Seth Material is a collection of writing dictated by Jane Roberts to her husband from late 1963 until her death in 1984. Roberts claimed the words were spoken by a discarnate entity named Seth.[1] The material is regarded as one of the cornerstones of New Age philosophy, and the most influential channelled text of the post-World War II "New Age" movement, other than the Edgar Cayce books and A Course in Miracles.[2] Jon Klimo writes that the Seth books were instrumental in bringing the idea of channeling to a broad public audience.[3]

Catherine L. Albanese said in the 1970s that the Seth Material launched an era of nationwide awareness of the channeling trend and contributed to the self-identity of an emergent New Age movement.[4] Study groups formed in the United States to work with the Seth Material.[5] and now are found around the world, as well as numerous websites and online groups, including in other languages as various titles have been translated into Chinese, Spanish, German, French, Dutch and Arabic.

John P. Newport, in his study of the impact of New Age beliefs, described the central focus of the Seth Material as the idea that each individual creates his or her own reality, a foundational concept of the New Age movement first articulated in the Seth Material.[6]

Amazingly appropriate for ATS, don't you think?

I did a quick google search and found it. "The Dark Crystal 1982 download" and it's the 2nd 1 down on that google list.
I've never seen it. I'm watching now. Very strange movie.

Love this movie although I find it to be pretty disturbing. The skeksis still pop up in my nightmares occasionally as an adult. Shudder.

I guess I'm going to watch it again.

I'm not saying it's the best movie in history, but it has been on my mind a lot lately...and that's saying something for a movie I saw in 1982.

I went back to look.

Ok, so there was a planned sequel and a planned prequel. I guess the sequel got scrapped, but the prequel is in production.

I remember it from when I was a kid - 30 years ago!
Ive watched it about 10 times in the last few years because my kids became interested in it.
I can actually remember being scared when the "Skeksis" would be on screen.

The dark crystal and The Labyrinth - great movies!
