Thanks for insightfully comparing the situation in America MountainLaurel. I assumed it might be similar in patches but your response indicates that messaging needs to change in both countries. I'm interpreting that the less intellectually inclined teenagers stateside are thinking "If you tell me I have no choice but to be a loser (if I don't achieve college), then I'll be a loser and you can jolly well pay me social welfare for making me one".

An interesting personal twist from the UK end... I have 3 bright kids who have all chosen to avoid University. One was told she would get a 1st class English degree at Oxford. In the UK nowadays you have to take out a government loan of 9k/year which turns into a 50k millstone around the neck to be paid off by retirement. They also realised the more they earnt, the more they would just pay tax to support those that don''t work.

The interesting thing is that there is a sweet spot that the working younger generation now go for, which gives them the maximum "take home pay". If you work over 16 hours a week and have kids you get both "working tax credits" and "child tax credits" from the state... this can amount to £450 a month net but decreases the more you earn. Therefore there is no incentive to earn more unless you can jump from £30k p.a. to £70k p.a.

The kids have all chosen to go into trade/retail and reached junior management levels but stopped there. Ironically though one has now moved to become an undergraduate welfare advisor at a large University.

I won't derail further but suffice is to say that I've threatened my kids with no inheritance if they aren't nett contributors to the state by the time the state part of my pension needs paying... I'll need to use it all to live off!!

My understanding is the system of incarnational cycle and recycle just died this weekend. No more system traps, android traps or other gimmicks. Free and clear....
