...is what they're saying.

Child Pornography reason behind Sunspot Observatory Closure

Hi everyone, it's been a while. What's this all about?

I've been keeping my head down around here, so forgive me if i'm not all caught up, but.... what?? The FBI evacuated and closed down an entire observatory from ~September 6th-17th over fears that the janitor was using their wifi to view and possibly obtain underage pornography?

The source of child pornography was traced to an IP address used at the observatory and a source within the building observed a computer with "not good" images on it, the warrant states.

...and then, the janitor, whose name is on the warrant, doesn't get charged with a crime?

An investigation by the FBI revealed that a janitor is the main suspect in the search, however he has not been charged with a crime even though his name in on the warrant.

The warrant states the suspect would use the observatory Wifi and a personal laptop to download the child pornography.

i'm sorry, am i starting to finally lose it, or does anybody else find anything particularly odd about the FBI closing down an entire observatory for about a week and a half over something they could have potentially protected people from in one afternoon?

The observatory in the mountains of southern New Mexico had been closed since Sept. 6 because of an undisclosed security concern, but reopened on Monday.

Huh, got it. So even though it seems like this article wants you to believe it's because of a creepy janitor, it basically ends with a reaffirmation of the fact that the "actual reason" is still undisclosed.

Can anybody help me out here with this? Why does this feel like an episode of X-files?

EDIT:

i'm re-reading my thread here, and it seems like i'm giving off the impression that i was unaware this observatory had been closed this whole time. let me clarify: i didn't comment about this on these forums until now, and have been eagerly reading up on this story since the day of.

i was on the fence about what this might be and how suspicious this case is until about 2 minutes after reading this article. i'm confident now that this is an attempt to bury the whole issue from public attention.

Hmmm, smells like a good cover story.

FBI shut the place down with no word why, evacuate it and the postal office, no word why, and after public awareness causing it to be a good centre of attention, bingo... Pedo conspiracy, so everyone will go "Ohhhh, ok, fair enough, get them perverts, boys!!"

I've not looked into this aspect, but at face value, it screams an obvious cover up.

Good source of info, but it has devolved into a discussion about Q, which I don't get, not wish to follow.

Hopefully this thread gets to remain, and not buried !

Cheers!

hey, thanks - i've definitely started there before posting this thread. thing is, that thread is 138 pages long and doesn't mention this closure having anything to do with janitors who can appreciate downloading illegal porn at an observatory moreso than they can appreciate a vpn and some privacy. did i miss something?

Right. I don't buy it.

OP, thanks for bringing this update as I'm sure many might have missed it on the central thread.

Why couldn't it be for this reason?? That stuff is federal crimes. The janitor may be trying g to say he barely knows how to use the internet and believes he was hacked. So they shut the place down to determine if another source nearby is connecting to the Lan . That kind of stuff takes time right??

I mean the place is open again. If everything is back to normal, I'd buy this excuse. The old pervs computer got hacked and they wanted to know If he was telling the truth. If he has an attorney they can keep him from being Charged with one excuse after another for a time. Check back in two weeks to see if he has been charged.

If not then I would cast doubt on the story. If so, then I will accept it.

I hadn't seen this yet so thanks for the update!! What a load of crap!

I sadly happen to know someone, who was a higher up military btw, and got caught dowloading child porn. They immediately had their computer confiscated from the apartment, lost their job, got kicked out of the military, and went to jail then prison. I do not know how it all went down other than that but I am sure they did not close down an entire town! the FBI did not shut buildings down and evacuate the small town around it for weeks. This stinks...now I am getting concerned over what is really going on.

Perhaps they shut it down because it wasn’t just one janitor but a pedo ring that was distributing? Would they shut the observatory if say half the staff was involved.

....Literally there is NOTHING as far as evidence to prove, or even speculate any of this.

How the hell this came about as a theory blows me away.

Next thing youll be telling me is they are beaming signals to Comet Pizza

I think this is way out there in lala land. The local law, the Sheriff' was not even told.
People signed non disclosures a ton of stuff does not make sense with this story.
