Francis' key cardinal advisers announced the decision Wednesday, as the latest chapter in the Catholic Church's long-running sex abuse and cover-up scandal has thrown Francis' papacy into crisis.

The Feb. 21-24 meeting is believed to be the first of its kind and signals a realization at the highest levels of the church that clergy sex abuse is a global problem and not restricted to the Anglo-Saxon world, as many church leaders have long insisted.

Francis' papacy has been jolted by accusations he rehabilitated a top American cardinal from sanctions imposed by Pope Benedict XVI for having molested and harassed adult seminarians.

About time the Pope made a move about these scandals, I hope this can change some things in the catholic church. I won't hold my breath for the pedophiles to be expose because this is one of the most secretive conspiracies we have, but at least he's doing something about it. Seems so.

Not much details yet about the meeting other than it's taking place in February, 2019.

So a meeting of the top pedophiles and the people who have been protecting them and covering up their crimes for decades. I bet this is more about workshopping ways not to get caught and better ways to cover it up.

They haven’t cared about the victims for DECADES, what makes people think they all the sudden care now? All they care about is the churches reputation.

a good preventative measure would be to punish and prosecute those pedophiles according to state laws and not Vatican laws.

if you attached one of those pedos with each limbs attached to 4 horses all pulling in different directions, I bet that would curb the abuse suffered by children. make a clear example out of one of those broken waste of oxygen and I bet there would be a steep decline in abuse cases.

I won't point fingers and say the Pope knew about the abuses and was complicit to it, he should be considered innocent until proven guilty.

But I'm sure some of these high level bishops knew or participated in the abuses, no way you can keep this under the radar for so long if you don't have high level authorities involved.

Let's wait to see what happens. Crossing fingers for some breakdown on the civilization and the fall of the Vatican in the meantime.

After seeing this go on for so long, I'll be surprised if anything real comes of it.

We can always hope. They would have to kick 30% of priests out of the church at this point. Not just the offenders but also those who cover it up. Otherwise it will just go back to business as usual. Do you believe they will do this?

Yea, well from what I've read, it is worse than that. They'd have to throw out 30% of the Bishops and Cardinals as well. This corruption goes to the very top and as we all know, a fish rots from the head.

I read this morning that the pope equated whistleblowers with Satan. Is that true?

Just let the buggers marry for goodness sake! Humans need sex...we're incredibly sexual beings ( so I'm told lol) and those that are denied it will find a way to get it, just look at prisons etc. We simply are naturally celibate and it takes a strong person to remain that way without slipping back to our basic instinct to procreate. Blame the creator (and probably misinterpretation of scriptures too)

In the past there were priests that went to prostitutes or nuns or whatever. The problems we have now really started around the time of Vatican II. The church was seriously changed by communists and masons assuming high offices. Then a huge influx of homosexuals until they became a significant voting bloc in the Vatican. They got their friends in and eventually morphed into the pedophiles we see today. Basically, people that wanted to overthrow the church did so. There has been much written about this and even a lot of videos on you tube.

It obviously shows that the whole religion is psychologically sick.

Molesting / raping children is not something that normal people would even WANT to do.

These priests could find consenting adults to sleep with. Even prostitutes (adults).

In NY the legal age is 17, meaning that everyone in NY is allowed to sleep with 11th graders. How anyone feels a need to go younger than that, is just sick. Especially talking about very young kids.

People blame celibacy (or homosexuality) but that is not the reason. They could pretend to be celibate and go bang consenting adults in their private lives.

I don't know why exactly, but it's clear that the religion is mentally ill in some very fundamental way.
