Thank you Seaworthy.
OK - so even with a basic assumption that 'one' is just offline, 'one' is closed, 'one' under maintenance - this leaves us with others that have seemingly gone offline without any clear explanation - a strange puzzle.

If this were some anomaly viewable by solar observatories - they would have to close them all if there is an attempt to stop disclosure of whatever this is, and yet thee are clearly observatories open, and no notifications coming forth of anything.

Which in turn leads one to wonder if this specific location experienced something.

Which then leads one to wonder - why would they not have a guard at the gate - or literally ANYONE at the facility, allowing people to literally wander about a facility that presumably has millions of dollars of equipment!

This just gets stranger.

Are there any ATS members within driving distance of the facility - please... if you are close by - well Saturday or Sunday would be a nice day to visit the facility!

It is great to have an exciting event again on ATS.

Sincerely
askbaby

If someone does go and the place is still abandoned, grab that X-files Unrestricted Access game while you're there.

They pulled the sheriff in the loop just long enough to evac people, but left them hanging on what exactly is the threat! No surprise there, hell it could be anything. One would think it would be prudent for the sheriff to be kept in the loop if things got out of hand. How can local authority repair if they haven't got a clue wth is going on? The feds can call anything a national security threat and take control of anything. By the sound of it helicopters flying in people to work on the observatory is very suspicious considering what the observatory is used for. Maybe they are viewing something else with the telescope that is completely unrelated to the Sun and it's pointed off somewhere else??

Idk that emailing her referencing ETs really does anything, other than vent frustration

EXACTLY. I expect little to nothing out of it, or a reply that'll make comedy gold.

I did the alien angle, because it's well- easy. Reference little green men, and then stand back for the explosion. On a more serious and honest note, I wonder if I won't get a semi honest "**** you, and here's exactly why". Possibility is a small %. . Like I have said, when I do a snarky email, I somehow manage results. I don't set *out* for results, but I end up getting them.

I haven’t seen this article Mysterious Evacuation Of Solar Observatory Overlooking White Sands Smells Like Espionage linked or mentioned, and while it doesn’t touch on anything not already mentioned in the thread, it is pretty comprehensive and does suggest the possibility of foreign operatives installing something on an antanna:

It seems more plausible that a foreign operative or an operative working on a foreign government's behalf might have been able to install an antenna/sensor apparatus onto the top of a structure that is part of the facility and within line-of-sight of the valley below without anyone noticing. This could allow them to persistently gather electronic intelligence on whatever might be happening on, around, and over White Sands and at Holloman. With the capabilities of modern electronics and batteries, it's possible that such a system wouldn't even need to be hard wired.

It also has a great link to a 360 degree image of the area: 360 degree image

It took two days for me to read this entire thread...whew! I have been sick for a week, so this thread kept me entertained for the past two days as I recovered from the flu/cold/virus crud I’ve had since last Friday.

Oh absolutely- common sense should tell them the longer they go without releasing ANY information the more the rumors/speculation will have time to grow. I dont doubt for a second that they know and understand that. Maybe they are enjoying the publicity? Idk... It sure is frustrating not to have at least the bare minimum info to even speculate about, or the REASON That they can't tell us more. I just think that just because they haven't told us anything doesnt necessarily mean A)they dont want to/their hands arent tied by some type of red tape or B) they are purposefully stalling to concoct some type of elaborate cover story. Granted at this point it could very well be both based on the breadcrumbs we have been given lol so who knows

Or C) This could be the most underhanded marketing/ viral advertising setup, EVER. Odd how there isn't anything from anyone with 3 letters in front of or behind their name. No FBI, CIA, NSA, DHS, etc etc etc.

Consider this...

The town of Rachel, Nevada (population 54) is a remote town far out in the Nevada desert along a desolate stretch of highway. Despite it's remoteness, millions of people around the globe know of both the town and the stretch of highway it sits on.

Why?

Because it is right next to the biggest source of conspiracy theories ever on planet Earth...Area 51. The highway? Rte 375, otherwise known as the "Extraterrestrial Highway", and the town of Rachel has the famous "Little A'Le' Inn" (little alein). This town likely would have disappeared off the map decades ago if it weren't for their tireless promotion of aliens, conspiracies, black ops and all manner of other intrigue. People from around the globe go there just to say they've been there. There's really no other reason to go there (there's nothing there), but they still go. And, they drive down the "Extraterrestrial Highway" to get there.

Today, everyone knows Area 51 exists, and most know what it's really used for, but this doesn't stop the speculation.

Now, consider the Sunspot Observatory, and their curious press release about visiting their Visitor Center after the facility re-opens. It's an aging facility scheduled for being stood down at some point. Yes, it's still in use, but those uses are slowly dwindling down. The people living there want to maintain the vitality of the place, their home.

All of a sudden some big unrelated criminal bust brings the federal boys in blue suits to town and they evacuate some people. What a better launching board for another ghost town just like Rachel, NV to pop into existence, right? Just think of all the ways they can spin this to make it a tourist destination once the grant money drys up! It'll be the next Roswell, AZ. Just think about it ...

"Way back in 2018 the feds swooped into to town in black helicopters and closed down the entire town of Sunspot for reasons which were never explained. Clearly they were hiding a crashed alien ship or a secret message received (accidentally) from ET who was hiding behind the Sun. Come visit the famous town of Sunspot and learn about the greatest conspiracy of the 21st Century!"

Make sense now?

You posit a great story but who stands to cash in on this? Gov owns Sunspot and the surrounding 200,000 acres.

This is what I think is the most likely scenario. It's in a prime location for spying, even if they weren't getting really sensitive info, maybe it was enough to tip the feds and raid the place.

Where did you get the 200,000 acre figure? Figure I got was 20,000 acre plot.

Dude is woke AF! Hahaha

Also if I might add to the topic, the observatories are offline from the links posted however no one has verified if they are shut down in person..yet.

The reasons vary for each one, like the Soho imager site which was down and then came back online all of a sudden the next day unexpectedly.

With the excitement this closure has generated, we hope you will come and visit us when we do reopen, and see for yourself the services we provide for science and public outreach in heliophysics.

Doesn't appear they're throwing in the towel yet.

No... it sounds like they've got a marketing team.

"With the excitement this closure has generated"

I'm starting to feel like we've been suckered, and this is some sort of viral marketing thing. Once it's generated enough hype, they re- open, and here comes the gravy train. Pay off the sheriff to mention the feds and a copter, close stuff down, run some people out there to film and stuff- generate some local color...

Alright.. I expect either absolutely nothing, or a response that'll be pure gold. Or the MiB showing up to smack me around.

If the MiB do show up, take pictures! Before they smack you around, if possible.

No way this is marketing.

They would evacuate a whole town for some extra tickets? Particular residents are having issues with this, I heard people weren't allowed to even go back to get their pets.

They would need to have bought the FBI in, the local police, and the post office mail.

I do think this publicity move they're running now is for people to be less worried and less speculative.

If I may say so, I would also say that it's at their own risk...not going to encourage people to get arrested or charged with any criminal act.
