Saw the rerun of Piers Morgan's Life Stories which I'd not normally watch because Morgan is an epically anal twerp of the highest order or as Clint
Eastwood's Dirty Harry character says in a film "You are a legend in your own mind"..
But ignoring Morgan because Burt was on it I watched, what a sincere and genuine man he was, he screwed up and he admitted it with no false 'feel
sorry for me' nonsense. He pined for Sally Field as a mistake that could have been "the one" he would have loved forever. They both felt it but it
never happened and its a mistake he regretted. He spoke of his stand up dad who he loved dearly but had to wait so long before he could havea real
chat with him as his dad was stern.
But with all this he said to the audience something like "I've had a hell of a life and enjoyed it". The broken jaw almost destroyed him (I remember
the papers with the 'aids' stories running riot) as did the addiction to painkillers but he never played the poor hard done by person, he was always
"Burt" the smooth mans man and the ladies delight..
Seemed a rare genuine man who kept his old friends throughout life and people around him loved him..
RIP Burt...Him, the wig and the tache will live on in my memories from the bloopes with Dom (what a fantastic pairing) and his epic Deliverance, never
saw Boogie Nights (he hated the film as he said it glorified the porn industry but liked his performance) but I hear he was brilliant...
As for Brando's douche like dislike of him for no reason other than he said he could not act which was crap, probably off his head on drugs..
Have a watch of that Life Stories thing if you can, its full of snippets about the people he worked with and how he got on with them all bar Brando
who stopped Burt from being in The Godfather..
A reall Hollywood legend and one o last few, Clint Hopefully won't join him soon but as they were best mates from way back it might be a mega team in
the here after..
