When I was younger my friend Mike introduced me to The Beatles. The down fall was that he only introduced me to the early Beatles so I wasn't that interested.
Fast forward to high school, I stumble across "Don't let me down" and I was like whaaatt. From then on I was hooked but still only liking the older stuff.
So I listen to them for like 10 years and wish there was more of them to listen to. Well my wish doesn't come true.
Last year I end up talking to my neighbor and it turns out he is a giant Beatles fan. I listened to the Beatles for a decade but didn't know much about them. A few weeks later my neighbor got me a book about the Beatles, so I read the book which was the history of The Beatles and it was interesting.
last Christmas he got me a Beatles cd that was a remix of the most popular songs... I felt bad cause I didn't get him anything, I will this Christmas.
Anyway I saw my neighbor a few weeks ago and he told me about the car pool karaoke with Paul McCartney, and it was great! If you are a fan then I recommend it.

That was a fun video, huh?
Well it is crappy that they broke up... Imagine if they were still together and in good health.
I wish that a-hole didn't shoot Lennon...

Well this is a story about two people having something in common, The Beatles.

Why do you like, love, or hate The Beatles?

They are rare because they made albums that are all good and not just one or two songs like most albums.

sorry if the thread is not that good, It doesn't live up to the legendary amazingness that is The Beatles.

I'm in my mid-thirties and I love their music.

I wouldn't say that they were simply 'a great band', or even 'the greatest' to have existed, but for me they're definitely up there as one of the greatest, if that makes sense,

They are a mediocre band at best.

The only thing they did, was start a trend, that thankfully was improved upon to the point of rendering the Beatles themselves artistically irrelevant, by bands like The Doors, The Rolling Stones, and so on, none of whom would have had a hope in hell of success without the ground work laid by the Beatles. But just as Jerry Lee Lewis was the REAL king of American Rock and Roll, regardless of the waves made by Elvis, The Doors and The Rolling Stones did better work, and kept their quality and timelessness in a way the Beatles, whose works were largely soft, sugary to the point of utter disgust (even when dealing with deep issues), and had all the impact of a candy floss cricket bat, never managed.

There were better musicians, better songwriters, and better bands to obsess over at the time and afterward, and the only thing that the Beatles managed, was to be a gateway for people to access that future stuff with open minds, and for THAT, I thank them. For everything else, for their every bit of output, I detest them. Weak, insipid, gutless, spew that belongs in the vault of history, but not in my ears. Put another way, its a waste of a set of instruments, to play such disgustingly oversweetened tripe on it. Either play solid old school blues, or graduate to thrash, but for the love of God don't ever write music you could sit and make daisy chains to... blearrrrgggh.

No offense meant to anyone who loves them, but my GOD no. I know Ozzy Osbourne rates them, and I respect the man intensely, but not his listening tastes.

Yes, the Beatles are the greatest, or at least in the top three.

While there is always subjectivity with anything to do with music, there are some things people cannot argue against. Whether you like them, or not, the Beatles were hugely talented and musically superb.

Great band but even better innovators.

What happened with music when they where still together and afterwards was largely down to The Beatles.

I was never into the Beatles until lately. Sometimes I like to mellow out. The thing with them is that while not being proficient musicians they changed rock. Singles were the norm back then. They created the concept album where there's a theme to the entirety. Bands like Pink Floyd owe them a lot for their pioneering.

The Beatles are probably the most over-rated band ever.
Sure, they recorded some half decent stuff but in my opinion they were quite average.

They had a shrewd manager who employed a talented and innovative producer to record their music.

The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Kinks, The Animals and The Small Faces were all contemporaries who produced far better music.

As True Brit said; Jerry Lee Lewis, and a few others I could name check, was far superior to Elvis Pressley.

But, and it is a MASSIVE but, I think it's true to say that Elvis, The Beatles and The Sex Pistols not only changed music but they each became the focal point and provided the impetus of something that ultimately changed society too.

They created the concept album

They didn't actually.

The first concept album was " Days Of Future Passed " from The Moody Blues.

You should check the dates of the Beatles releases.

Timing is everything not sure if their wave of popularity could be recreated today. Greatest band probably not, but certainly their influence was wide spread and deep rooted. But they were a little before my time too, Im more of a Zeppelin guy that expands into a large variety of music. Cant forget the Blues and its foundation for lots of what are regarded as great bands now.

What helped the Beatles ?
They were all about Revolution and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Those that remember will understand.

I take it you refer to Sgt Pepper?

Not a concept album as the songs are not interlinked.

I hated them as a kid, all those silly love songs. However, I was wrong. They were awesome and what they really did was introduce us all to the idea that music wasn't something that had strict lines to follow.

They were Beethoven's using sitars and synthetic piano when only a few people could get a break in the Music Biz.

Top three for me too along with Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin of the British bands. Top American Bands I would say there are so many for me like Chicago, Kansas, Lynerd Skynerd, Tom Petty, Stevie Ray, Chuck Berry, Jimmy Hendrix in any order. Elvis for my mom, that was all.. LOL
ETA

While I love Ringo, he is not, was not the best drummer in Rock and Roll. That goes to Neil Pert of Rush and second was Keith Moon of the Who.

I like the Beatles and consider them pioneers but I wouldn't call them the "greatest band". Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin are way better. The Beatles were not that skilled as musicians.
