Deep Throat

I was just wondering who people think "deep throat" is in the Watergate Scandal.

It was discussed before, it's been awhile, but the latest news broadcasts seem to portray "DeepThroat" (nothing to do with adult video selections, btw) as a composite of many different sources. Seems more likely than not, eh?

Could George H.W. Bush Be Deepthroat?

It's pretty widely speculated that Deep throat is actually Supreme Court Justice Renhquist.

At least, that's where I'm putting my casino chips.

There are alot, and i mean A LOT of theories and names out there. Rehnquist, Bush, Buchanan, Haig, Fielding etc.

It was Fielding...he admitted it on his death bed.....

yeah if it was Fielding and he did admit it on his deathbed, wouldn't have woodward and bernstein come out and said it was him? They said they would reveal deep throat once he was dead, so why haven't they revealed it yet, with Fielding's death?

Yep, Woodward and Bernstein have stated several times that they will reveal Deep Throat's identity when he dies. So, the Fielding story doesn't hold up.
Since rumor has it that Rehnquist is terminally ill, I'm placing my chips on him as well.

My money is on S.C.Judge William Renhquist. I can't figure out why
Woodward and Bernstein will only divluge this upon "D.Throats" death. It would be nice to hear it from the judge before he dies so as to not to leave any doubt whatsoever.

I thought some of the clues indicated that Deap Throat was either working at the White House or at the Justice Department?

It's definitely not Hillary Clinton, she had no inside knowledge and had just joined the investigation as a rookie attorney because they wanted people to work for free.

I doubt it was George H.W. Bush because of all the things Nixon had done for him, plus Bush wasn't working out of the White House. He was sent to China and then the UN.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Renquist just because I recall Woodward or Bernstein saying in the past few months that DeepThroat was ill.

For a while I thought it was Pat Buchanan, but now I'm not so sure. I just hope its someone semi-famous so at least it'll make the story more interesting.

Woodward and Bernstein have both made it clear that DeepThroat is a REAL person and not a collection of sources.

Well we know so far that he is dying and that's why it has come out again the identity issue.

The only one I can thing about is Renquist he is sick enough to be considered.

Maybe it was Hunter Thompson.
Might be he uncovered something while writting Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trial of '72.

And he recently died.

Nah, with Renquist being ill, and Woodward and Bernstein talking about it again, smart money goes there.

I don't know who it was, but it seems to be Fielding.

My high school English teacher claimed to knows who it was (served in some capacity on the Nixon administration - I think it was in some environmental agency). He was on some of the the tapes - Nixon used to refer to him as "that God damned S.O.B. Bergh".

A guy who comes into my work actually thinks it's the Pope. Right after his second Hospitalization, talk about "Naming" Deepthroat surfaced, that it would be announced once he died.....
