Ah cool, all that radiotherapy nonsense I went through was a waste of time and I should have gone to a comedy club instead. Stupid oncologists with their years of training and experience, why didn't they fill me in on that one.
*Is reduced to horrified silence* Oooookay, thanks for that. I now have a terrifyingly clear view of the OP's stance on oh so many things.

I suggest that before you debate with the OP about basalt columns you visit his/her blogspot and check out his/her other beliefs.
For instance, he/she apparently thinks that 90% of chronic diseases (including cancers) are caused by "mental sins". Quite apart from the vengeful Martian ghosts thing.
It is the nature of basaltic lava cooling that allows this to happen: this lava is hotter and moves faster than other kinds. As it cools from the bottom up and from the center outward, long fractures form columns that at times take on astoundingly clear-cut hexagons. The whole process is called columnar jointing.Oct 1, 2014 11 beautiful basalt columns around the world | From the Grapevine www.fromthegrapevine.com...

" Whats the point of making these colums with no apparent function?"
I have no definitive answer to this. But I noticed that many columns are near water of sea or river. So, the columns may have served as "piles" in waterfront construction.
"How do you propose these colums are made?"
I SPECULATE that they were molded from CONCRETE-like material.
