I wonder if they link up phone lines with other dimensions using d-wave quantum computing.

Another ridiculous thread.

And to the OP, I have no idea what your problem is with Google maps, it always works great for me. But if you don't like it then by all means feel free to go back to the paper variety and see how it goes for you.

No offense, but maybe that's your cue to ditch the "digital directions"

No kidding. I'm about ready to chuck it all in the trash and go back to everything non digital. Photography would be an exception. I really like that in digital form.

Google maps is a nuisance sometimes and acts like it's gone full troll AI. A few weeks back we were using it to find a market on foot. We followed the directions and the actual destination got further and further away! That's serious trollin'.

Ya know? I CAN BELIEVE IT. I seriously wonder if it's not on purpose, because how can it be from incompetence? I can't wrap my head around the map developers being as truly idiotic as they have been. You try to punch in an address- FIRST shot, it asks the most dumbassed questions, "Would you like to see a list of Starbucks?" While you're needing something far more important. Then, erases what you're looking for in the first place! Didn't update it exactly when it wants? It breaks itself! What DOES a map program need with a 30+ meg update?! Especially when it doesn't update road names one bit?!

And, a couple months back, it took the roads, cities, etc, and overlaid them on the map of states UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS. It broke my brain. North was now east, cities south of us were west... and I was headed for a full on migraine, while we wandered about lost.

Google maps is a thorn up my.. *ahem*.

No... in this case, Google maps has a lot of screws loose. See my last post. It's done things I never thought would be possible- certainly not sane. I spend WAY too much time screaming obscenities at it far more than I should.

Hooray for you. I get nothing but crap from it, 3 phones, yet.

Here's a bit of a "woo" explanation for some of your experiences with technology:

I recall there being a "theory" that we are able to inadvertently influence technology through strong negative emotions.

If you've ever had a really bad day where an unprecedented number of technological devices seemed to malfunction, the theory postulates that a positive feedback cycle of negative emotions is to blame.

I believe this theory is probably at the root of the establishment of the PEAR project.

I'm just going from memory. But that might give you something to research when you have time.

If my memory serves there was a lot of controversies over the statistics gathered, seemed like bad science to me but I could be utterly off base. I personally believe technologies effect us much more so than the other way around. Just glanced at the study again and yeah the methodology was very sketchy indeed with one person accounting for half the stastical average and he happened to be a member of the group doing the study which doesn’t look good at all especially considering that the slew from average was less than 1%. Could the person have been “gifted” it’s a possibility I would be much more inclined to believe the deviation but him being a member of the organization that is doing the study screams fraud, and loudly so as far as I’m concerned the results are nulled by someone who had a vested interest in the continuation of said study.
OP- If you have that many problems with GM why not use something else? Personally I never use it while driving my rig as I’ve been taken down roads that were extremely sketchy so I bit the bullet and bought a proper rig GPS to avoid such instances. Keep in mind it is a free service and thus should get a bit of wiggle room in the bug department.

Severe stress would fall under this category, wouldn't it?

Because every mapping app I have looked at uses- wait for it- GOOGLE MAPS. I kid you not. I'd rather a mapping app that has nothing to do with Google's strung out data and AI.

Yep. And that level of stress continues to build the more your technology malfunctions.

No kidding. I do not remember getting this stressed over an atlas, or a drawing journal, pencil, and eraser. I did 600 mile trips in the car using little more than a paper map before technology came and wrecked things.
