The back side crew has always been a security risk. It's just that the media never picked up on it.

I totally agree with all of that. They are probably vetted and scrutinized more than other employees but the story isn't really about a security risk, in my opinion. The guy had issues, stole a plane, had a great time and made sure to put it down where there was the least amount of damage to another person but also make sure he didn't feel any pain. Yes, a lot of illegal things went on, he had a pretty awesome adventure IMHO and then took his own life. I am not condoning his actions. I just don't understand the need for all the fear mongering I've read.

Because "plane stolen, putting hundreds at risk" sells better than "plane stolen by suicidal employee, one dead".

Again, I couldn't agree more. I really think I needed to just vent about that part of the narrative this story has taken on. Sensational and speculative reporting is now the norm. While most stories are sensationalized and slanted towards one pitiful party or the other, which can defended or debunked by the 2 parties, this one is created to cause fear with the masses. If the agenda is continued, both parties will jump on board to quickly snatch up more freedoms from everyone. Like I stated, before, I think I really just needed to vent and this may have been the wrong thread to do it on. My apologies to the OP for that but I also appreciate the post so that I could rant a little. Lol

Lets see wyat he fix is though. Probably not much that the public would see. For the mechs though...mandatory suicide prevention briefs, psych evals, and much tighter no lone zone areas. Gotta appease thise insurance peeps.
