Why would someone's lungs be filled with mucus/swollen after being caught in an extreme rainstorm?

A guy was found dead last year, was caught in a constant and extreme rainstorm (>half an inch per hour) that was also constant. Was lost and couldn't find shelter and was found with his lungs swollen up 2x the size and his lungs were full of mucus including his throat.

Thoughts?

Sounds like pneumonia, maybe emphysema?

Ever sit in a bath tub too long?

Does this story hold some personal interest to you ? It seems you’ve started a few threads with questions about it .

I’m sorry if that is the case , and it may have been someone you know . 😕

But then again, you could just be puzzled and curious as to why this would happen. I hope you find the answers you are searching for.

Is that a thing? I thought it was only inhaling sea or pool/lake water, not from rain. Are there any well documented cases of this happening due to rain?

Dreamingawake beat me.

If you injest water when swimming. Say you drown and are given cpr, then cough out all the water, you still need emergency care, your lungs will fill with fluid and you can drown from it, your lungs won't cause a cough reaction, like you would think they should. Pretty scary.

He probably injested rainwater and his lungs reacted to the foreign body.

If you're a turkey maybe(LOL-old myth).
It has more to do with flooding from rain and inhaling water(example ever accidentally breath in water while swimming?)from it.

"Basically, the drowning process begins in water and the outcome can occur in water (as in most cases) or it can occur after leaving the water (as in some cases that have been recently described as dry, secondary or delayed drowning)," Magrum said.

I'm an ex-Floridian and have never heard of someone drowning from the humidity there(one of the highest in US).

How do you ingest rainwater by being stuck in rain?

laryngospasm

No chance.

For the thoracic cavity to double in size... in such short amount of time.
It would have to take on vinegar. Not buying it.

This was a preexisting disorder.

Edit: but I will give the aspiration.

I forgot to elaborate, the report said it was raining for several days straight, he was found 3 days after he died.
