It came in handy watching all the edge of the cliff selfies and yoga poses after people stopped and walked all the way out to the end of where we were. The people watching was almost as much fun as the plane watching. Especially when we scared the hell out of the German family.

Guy in a small rental car high centering it on the trail
Yoga Lady
Guy in MDX blasting down the trail like he was in the baja 500
German? Family who looked freaked out when three guys with heavy camera gear burst out of the car and raced towards them.
Tripod guy. Guy carnies heavy tripod out to perch and then mounts yep a cellphone
Mustang guy who was reluctant to leave but the G/F obviously threatened with a cold night and bailed
Multiple cars with people in the backseats who had that WTF expression going.

Like I said, almost as much fun as the planes. I'm surprised the German family didn't bolt.

Yeah they froze in place. They were up near the top and the dad had hiked down to peer down into the canyon

That's ok, I had my 6" SCT telescope to put everyone in their place.

Two of us were using 300mm lenses. SOMEBODY had to get all fancy and bring a 100 pound lens and try to make us feel inadequate.

Seems to be worth it.

Considering that we were able to tell that both U-2s WERE U-2s, and could see the red lettering on the tail, at 2am, from about half a mile away (straight line distance), I'd say it was.

What's the fun if I can't torment people with talk of interesting radio calls and pics that won't see the light of day?

depending on what they got, regardless of where it was there is a reason things are hidden or not shown in public yet.

im sure they could post whatever they got as long as they didnt break the law to get it, and being in a area that prohibits photography might just be enough for them to lose their pictures and get a major headache in the form of AFOSI and litigation

the nail that sticks out gets hammered and all that
