Ekaterinburg Massacre Centenary: remembering an extreme fatal Night for Russia & Humanity

This Night of July 16th to 17th is a centenary of a real fatal event in History, one which repercussions were so strong along the XX century that could be considered as the crime of the century, it opened a pandora box of the worst chapter by far for History of civilization.

A century ago Former Tsar Nicholas IInd and his entire immediate family, including his wife all his five adolescent children were brutally and cowardly massacred in the basement of the Ipatiev House at Ekaterimburg.

That was the tragic end of 300 Romanoff Rule over not just only Russia but around other 17 countries that comprise the former USSR plus Poland and Finland.

JFK death no doubt marked a lot the History of America and the world in the post WWII war, but it was not his assassination the one that marked more profoundly his century, it was one occurred around a year of his birth .

His quote though is really descriptive of the root causes of this barbaric act. It was the tremendous stubbornness of a statesman insisting against many wise advices to repress violently his people and delay all needed social changes what boosted his tragedy and the one of many nations.

This was a crime committed not in an open space, not under light of sun, it was performed in obscurity, at night and in the underground, ideal conditions for a so coward act. The victims were not all adults, there were at least 5 underage adolescents and the majority were females. The fanatics can argue that it was not a crime but justice against a tyranny, but that is distraction sophism, it can not hide a crime against humanity.

The point is that all them were executed powerless, even without having the right of a trial, or knowing they were going to die, and this was preceded by an abdication occurred 16 months before.

Actually Not all the victims of this tragedy were that day in that place nor were all aristocrats, this triggered a bath of blood that decimate the middle classes in no less than 3.1 millions casualties in civil war, 10 million of starvation after their essential goods were taken away, more than a million in purges, plus 4 millions imprisoned in concentration fields and 2 more millions forced to exile around the world.

Without the execution of the imperial family in Ekaterinburg surely the XX century would not have been what we remember at all, the communism never should reach the strength that we all know, possibly Hitler never would have had a way to invade Poland without an ally as Stalin triggering WWII and a Cold war of 7 decades perhaps never had occurred.

The repercussions of this massacre are so vast and grave that it practically changed the entire History of civilization for ever as nothing before or after it.

It is not exaggerated go claim that what happened that night in Ekaterinburg, such an obscure execution performed almost anonymously altered the life of hundreds of millions of people, civilians and militaries, religious and atheistic ones, workers and entrepreneurs, around the world in many nations that would suffer for decades the political consequences of such a fact in many different ways.

During this night and tomorrow thousands in Ekaterinburg, western Siberia, and millions of Russian exile descendants around the world will attend memorial religious services in the Russian Orthodox Churches arranged to remember the victims of is so tragic and important historic anniversary of Ekaterinburg massacre as well as all the martyrs of the political intolerance in the former USSR.

This is an evening to meditate deeply in all what hatred has brought to Humanity and all what compassion may have prevented if a constructive mental attitude would have prevailed instead of enmity, selfishness and confrontation, everything of what we have known and suffered could be entirely different.

May the good Lord prevent that this genocide and the mistakes that lead to it never occur again in any other place of the world.

How many times have we only gotten half of the story? Rasputin predicted two outcomes for his impending death. One, if the peasants killed him, the Russian Monarchy would carry on through the Twentieth Century. Two, if the Aristocrats murdered him, the Monarchy would fall, and terror would rule the Twentieth. Nostradamus said that this Revolution would not survive the Century of the Sun, "The Twentieth Century".

Now, put on your thinking cap, and try to work through all these prophecies, leaving the Russian Imperial Family in the wind. When an Aristocrat or two, ambushed Rasputin in 1915, IIRC, the Imperials knew which way the wind was blowing. But we don't know if Rasputin put another line to his prediction of his early death. Did he throw a lifeline to the Tsarina, about how to save their lineage?? The two sets of remains buried well outside of the main burial under the RR tracks, tends to show that at the end, two stand in's were first separated from the true family, but then were also murdered, but TOO LATE to be buried, along with even the Tsar's household servants. Two were not yet dead when the rest were carried out of the basement of Ivestia House, and planted under the RR ties, " sleeplers".

So two were murdered later, and buried remotely, after being disfigured by acid thrown into their faces. Angel, I don't know you, but this really stinks of a guard letting two stand in's go free, but then having second thoughts, and murdering them anyway. And this brings us to just when was the switch out accomplished? Alexi and one of his older sisters, ("Marie?), had already been spirited away. Anastasia wouldn't have been able to escort Alexi outside of the Bolsheviks ken. And Tatiana, being the Tsarina's oldest daughter, would have been needed sorely to help he mother, keep things together. So a couple of shirt tail Romanov's were conscripted to fill in for two of the Imperials. But in the end, Lenin's man at Ekaterinburg, had to report the total number of the Imperial Family executed to his boss. Counting noses is good, but making sure you have the correct noses is above and beyond.

Thank you for this well-written memorial. I believe that nearly all of the horrors of the 20th Century that still leave us reeling stemmed from the inhuman chain of events set off by the Bolsheviks.

They set the gold standard for a government systematically murdering off its own citizens. The world does not know enough about the import of Red October-- we are still living in its winter.

Well, there are many legends of supposedly survivors of the Ekaterinburg massacre, for long time without way to disproof them due to lack of evidence, that became popular myths of the Siberian Taiga.

Now, the Russian Orthodox Church remain as the only institution that still refuse to accept the official reports of the Russian official investigators that have already closed the case based on the fact of the second findings of human remains.

Those remains have been analyzed by forensic pathologists that with DNA testing had confirmed they belonged to the other two Romanoff children, but they were Russian experts.

Now, the absence of international support to those tests for a while animated the claims that the legends perhaps were true, nevertheless finally an American expert was allowed to examine the remains and he arrived to the same conclusion that the DNA test gives conclusive evidence to say they were the missing children.

Now, the only thing that remains still unsolved or difficult to explain is why the missing two children remains are so small, in comparison with the other members of the family, we are talking about just few fragments of bones, perhaps the acid got rid of the major part of them?

May be yes, but fragments of the cloths they were wearing were found, so that is still a rare aspect to explain, I think that is the principal reason of the doubt of the Church to accept the conclusions.

Why the Orthodox Hierarchy still refuse to accept this fact? that is of course a very intriguing unsolved question over which one only can speculate.

I think you just drank their Kool Aid. The Russkies I.D.'s some towels with the last Tsar's blood, from a shaving nick, in a closet in the Kremlin. Indeed there are many so important ethical lessons to derive from this historic event, and if Humanity is able to grasp all of them possibly we will be a better world.

I think it is highly positive that the common people in Russia have gathered massively on this centenary to give tribute to the martyrs, that talks good about a nation that suffered various of the worst episodes of annihilation of History, cruelly invaded by Napoleon, brutally attacked by Kaiser William II, decimated horrendously by Hitler and also punished horribly by Stalin.

I think Humanity discovered this week the good side of the Russian Character, one that is able to repent from terrible errors of the past and grow spiritually from them, giving to everybody respect and dignity in the long run.

How many times we have in America given tribute to the millions of victims cruelly killed and also stolen or expropriated, what is the same, of our own national holocaust of Native Americans?

or the overexploited and tortured African Americans that built wealth on many areas of the country just for the food they ate and a roof that was never theirs?

what to say of the millions of immigrants that have come to America in the XX century being overexploited and are now also under prosecution demonized just because the countries they come from are visibly discriminated by the existing immigration quotas system that grant visas not based on quality of the person but the origin?

The centenary of the massacre of Ekaterinburg make me feel extremely sympathetic in particular with the children suffering under war, or political conflicts, suffering as a consequence of the issues created by adults.

No Child deserve to be harassed or punished by crimes that only adults are responsible of, they are innocent of whatever past have preceded them.

Here let me share another story that also refers to the same topic, since there were no survivors of the Ekaterinburg massacre that can tell us their story.

I agree with the voices that claim that what happened in Ipatiev house on that terrible night of July 16 to 17 of 1918 must be condemned universally, and the responsible ones labeled for ever as criminals against humanity, because their hatred was not repairing nothing, was really madness.

A crime can not expiate other crimes, it only can extend their scope longer.

I disagree. Lenin was just using these murders to justify the ending of any White Russian Leadership. "The ends justify the means", is still very much the theory of the Left. This hasn't changed one bit. And only an Imperial level keel hauling of the Lefties, will disabuse them from trying it over and over, again. So, Angel, be very careful on what you wish for, regarding any lost Romanovs. A restoration of these Tsarist monsters will lead to the mother of all Pogroms. And nobody who has even flirted with Marxist Leninism will be completely safe, anywhere in the World. Whatever else, Putin is trying to bury this hatchet, with the Russian Federation.

They will go down, just like the American Buffalo did, in the late Nineteenth Century, out on our Western plains. Deaths, first by the thousand small cuts, and then immense winter kills.
This is exactly how Comrade Lenin starved millions of undesirables to death in several contrived famines. It also explains why those Ukrainians really hate their Russian neighbors, and previous overlords.

Well, Let me see them as what they were without all that aura of political power:

Just fragile human beings extremely scared that became prisoners after had already surrendered all right to rule Russia, there are legal instruments from the previous negotiation of the abdication, the abdication itself and the decisions taken by the provisional government of Russia after it happened, that show that clearly beyond any reasonable doubt.

They didn't have any political aspiration, I am sure they were very aware that they were never going to have again their previous status, they just wanted to escape for all that collective madness of the WWI and the Revolution, they were willing to perhaps live the rest of their lives in exile, as guests of another monarchy overseas.

Now, Lenin certainly was who ordered directly and with No hesitation the execution, there is now incontrovertible evidence from the already open archives of the former USSR that show the death of this family was not the fruit of any precipitated decision taken under the pressure of unpredictable events by the guards of Ipatiev house, it was carefully planned and with absolute approval from Moscow.

Lenin broke of course his deal with Kaiser William II to respect the lives of his cousins by doing this, when he sealed that evils pact of to cross through German territory from his exile in Switzerland to the Baltic Sea in his way to go back to Russia, so he had good reasons to hide this from the public opinion, he was aware that if being known would disrupt any peace negotiation with Germany.
