The video shows what appears to show a gun and clip tucked into Augustus' pants. Moments after police approach him, the video shows Augustus walking into the street and appearing to be reaching for the weapon in his pants.

This was the shooting that caused some protests over the weekend. Looks pretty damming for the version of events that were spread over the weekend about Harith Augustus's fatal shooting.

He had a gun and and clip and went towards his gun as he fled.

The local community has to stop claiming every shooting is wrong.

It's not helping the situation at all.

Some activists want the Police Chief to resign. Stop.

The Police body cam is in the link.

No surprise. There is no statistical evidence that black men are being shot and killed by police without reason. Yes, there is always one or two questionable events, but 99.9% of the time it is justified and this one is no different.

The community is just looking for a boogeyman to blame for their own failures.

Very plain to see he was reaching for his gun in an attempt to use it.

Some people will never care, sadly. The guy could be shooting at officers and people would still be mad at the cops. I do understand there are many cases out there where the cops went entirely too far, but there are also cases that are understandable.

I completely agree. It's hard to know what cases truly need to be looked at when people throw the race card with everything. With how he resisted and then reached for his waistband, I can honestly say I probably would've reacted in a similar fashion.

That's the part that gets me, the denial of the local community that he "wasn't doing nothing". If he doesn't have the gun (in Chicago mind you), he doesn't die. That he fled and reached for it sealed his fate, regardless of skin color.

They had a minny riot that night based on false rumors.

Why do you say that? The video seems to show a clip holder on his left side and the gun Holster on his right.

Elaborate why he didnt have a clip.

Those are "magazines", not clips... technical jargon. A clip is used to insert ammo into a magazine or cylinder of a firearm.

Thank you. So he had an extra magazine on the left or at least a holder for one.

Yeah... people who aren't familiar with guns, often say "clip" when they really mean magazine. For gun enthusiast, it is kind of one of those things I guess that they find annoying or view as a sign someone doesn't really know what they are talking about. The other apparently is when someone claims a gun has a "silencer." The actual term is suppressor.

Don't own a gun, but am strong 2nd supporter. If I would have stayed in my line of work, I would have gotten one with a CCW. Mainly fired rifles.

Same here. I grew up shooting and around firearms, but don't even own a gun nowadays. May buy a pistol though for a bugout bag though.

This is why police officers should have body cameras with voice on all while in the field. This would keep both sides that have a tendency for violence and taunting from acting on their impulses. I know many may not like this situation but unfortunately it may be for the best for all concerned.

The cops made the right move immediately releasing the video... I guess they are learning from the other cases to not let social media drive the narrative without the facts.

Let's see what the activists in Chicago have to say in response to the police video.

This should be a moment for them to pull back the rhetoric.

Will they?

They won't say anything. They will quietly go away like nothing happened and wait on the next "shooting of an unarmed black teen by white cops" to justify protesting while ignoring the dozens of bodies piling up weekly from black on black violence.

They need to blast some gang leaders like that. Send a message. Reduce the murders.

I worry more about the instant claims of innocence without any evidence.
Quite often we see people lying who claim to be eyewitnesses, maybe they didn't see what the camera did.
At any rate they get everyone stirred up and ready to riot when the police are clearly not at fault.
Their job is hard enough without having to deal with these kind of responses.

It's going to take more than policing actions. The whole violence culture needs to be addressed. People are just acting in ways their part of society deems normal. Till that is addressed by leaders in the community, expect more deaths. Soon it will be "why did they have to shoot him, all he had was a gun".

The community leaders shut down the Dan Ryan expressway last week out of frustration. Their actions over the past 10 years have had no effect in curbing violence. Time for tough measures.
