I've had this weird theory before and was thinking. Maybe this is the plan, to make everyone angry at each other, block out the rest of the world which will create a massive nationalistic society and a call to arms will begin to gain economic power again.

Starve your citizens and make them want what they had before, war might be the end game goal here. And war always brings economic boost.

I thought he presented a provocative assessment based on reasonable facts. How can Germany align with NATO to defend EUrope against Russia when Germany is dependant on Russian energy to survive? How easy would it be to take the eminent power of the EU and make them bend to your will during a rough winter?

They will gnash teeth and posture...but the reality is that Merkle was within inches of losing her government and her own people are fed up with immigration policies. Italy is demanding remuneration for being the immigrant dumping ground for Europe. England wants to GTFO, but is being obstructed by their leaders. Trump is berating European governments that the European people themselves are berating at the same time. All because they are making demands of the US while at the same time not maintaining commitments to provide for their own defense.

..and it's exactly what Putin wants him to do. Break up the allies.

"The Lone Wolf dies. The Group survives".

Putin is blackmailing this idiot. Face it.

Of course when Trump doesn't play the game the politicos and their sponsors want, his detractors will crucify him-even whle he is overseas attempting to reinstate the status of the USA as tops in world economy. He has courage-not recognized by many since this country's leaders have been too frightened to stand up against the Putins, Xis etc. Time for us to be proud again and WORLD LEADERS.

Exactly. With the current US arrogance, I for one suggest we threaten to move to a new currency to trade oil.

The threat of losing the petro dollar would scare the US more than anything else possible. If we could convince OPEC to come on board with this, it would cause financial collapse in the US and they would be forced to rethink their current belligerence before this became a reality.

Would we need Saudi Arabia on board to make this happen?

So if the U.S. wants to stop beng financially abused by Europe this is a bad thing? Sorry the gravy train for the est of t work is being shut down. We don’t need friends that will onl be there if we pay them to be and allow ourselves to get taken advantage of by our “allies”.

The only reason you do NOT need friends is the petro dollar. If it looked like that was in serious jeopardy, you would come to the bargain table begging and pleading.

Sure is a whole lot of whining from a country with the single biggest financial advantage (by far), of any other country in the world. Spoiled children.

Just because someone is successful doesn’t mean others are entitled to a free ride at their expense. You sounds like a petulant child who didn’t get his allowance raised.

I already called you a child, be creative!

You're successful beyond your means precisely BECAUSE of the petro dollar. I'm simply saying that since the current administration believes every other country in the world owes it something, let's even the playing field with the US and its equally corrupt Saudi partners.

Down with the petrodollar!

I recall the old conservative concern that the US needed to fight globalism. That we should take care of ourselves and not the world. That we should depend upon our own manufacturing and export export export.
Globalists are international corporations. For decades they built their wealth based on simple factors. Manufacture as cheaply as possible and push all the sales they could upon the American consumer. That was the role the American public played in the international market place for most of our lives. The American consumer would buy just about any cheap trinket and bauble that sparkled for them. The American public were a cog in this wheel.

We lived high on the hog, buying inexpensive clothes and toys and things that were based on the exploitative wages and work conditions of other countries and made those international corporations rich. Now they no longer need American consumers. We are being tossed under the bus by these cabals and Trump will not save us. He will jocky and squirm to cut out as much of a piece of the pie for himself and his companies as he can as the international economic conditions continue to evolve into a one world economic structure resembling the feudal systems of the past.

And that is the sadness, that conservatives who wanted to have things more in line with the way things ''used to be'' picturing some kind of American Zenith of the 1950s and now place their hope, not on the strengths of the American people but on the questionable dictates of their own ''big man''.

lol... too funny. Trump taking credit for NATO nations increase in defense spending that began back in 2014... after Obama told the member nations, "We can't do it alone."

"The United States is proud to bear its share of the defense of the Transatlantic Alliance. It is the cornerstone of our security. But we can't do it alone. And we're going to need to make sure that everybody who is a member of NATO has full membership. They expect full membership when it comes to their defense; then that means that they've also got to make a contribution that is commensurate with full membership."
~ Atlantic Council

Trump says that NATO costs the US too much money but “The Trump administration has increased funding for the U.S. presence in Europe by 40 percent,” NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg wrote in The Guardian last month. “The last U.S. battle tank left Europe in 2013, but now they are back in the form of a whole new U.S. armored brigade.”
~ Newsweek

The look on John Kelly's face while Trump told the council that Germany was controlled by Russia was priceless... how not to win friends and influence people.

and then there's poor old Sarah left to clean up the mess. When trying to explain why John Kelly reacted the way he did she says, "was displeased because he was expecting a full breakfast and there were only pastries and cheese."

This is better than going to the circus and watching all the clowns get out of a little tiny car....

Be sure to leave all the standard replies below. Don't mind the echo...

Trump's recent statement that " Germany is totally controlled by Russia" , made at the NATO Summit yesterday could be very telling of the state of international affairs right now.
Trump has managed to alienate European , and Eastern Bloc (SCO) interests , with both economic and strategic areas now throwing up their own blocks against Trumps aggressive stance on tariffs and latterly his militaristic efforts . NATO is becoming effectively redundant as Trump complains that America is having to pay to protect everyone else - from Russia China et al (read SCO/Eastern Bloc) .

To be in a country to defend them from the actions of another and then to find out that the country you are protecting is going to get up to 75% of their gas from the country you are there to support them in defense from, what do you call that?

I guess no chance of manipulation...

As far as NATO...maybe we should let it die...Trumps sees the members of NATO just take take take from America as we foot the vast majority of the bill and lives.

It seems people are afraid of upsetting the status quo of the world with America paying the bill for everyone as other countries do what they want with even 700% tariffs against America.

Yes, Trump may destroy our economy by pissing off the entire world. He should be put out of office ASAP.

So let me get this right...

Lets say you take over a small orchard of apple trees, and you noticed all your neighbors come over and fill up baskets of your apples and then they do things like sell your apple under what you sell them for and then charge you for things that you need that should be cheaper all the while living a better life then you, but you do nothing because...well they been doing it a long time and you do not want to piss them off...

Or do you say WTH get the hell out of my orchard, and then barter for better prices....

If you believe everything Trump says without actually investigating for yourself, I can see why you would think that Russia "controls" Germany....

...but the actual percentage of gas imported from Russia that Germany uses is closer to 60%... and of the total amount of power sources that Germany consumes, only about 20% comes from Gas.

So if you think that 60% of Germany's power comes from Russia you're wrong.... but that's what Trump wants you to believe. I'll give it to him... he knows how to manipulate simple minds.

The big meme of the left is they are all the smart ones...Just keep looking for that gold nugget answer as to why their poor Hillary lost...Not saying you are liberal, just sound like one.

I agree... the average applied tariff on imported goods to the US is only 1.4%. 70% of imported goods to the US face no tariff at all.

No... I didn't call you simple minded... you chose to put yourself in that category.... and then confirmed it with a standard "Hillary lost" reply... good for you buddy... 2 for 2.

Oh and here... let me address the rest of your post.... "even 700% tariffs against America." That's the most ridiculous uneducated thing I've read today here on ATS... and that includes the "Water is Not Essential to Life" thread.

Happy now? I bet not... carry on disseminating stupid BS while denying ignorance.
