I find it oddly ironic that all these people were hoping and praying for the safety of these Thai boys in a cave. However
if you put those same Thai boys on our border, or in a cage in America it would be a different story.
The sad thing, it isn't a different story. It is exactly the same. These kids didn't make the choice and are not capable of the choice.
It is parents or adults that did. No matter what you feel about border control or immigration, kids are kids.
It sickens me to see all the people and companies trying to steal "glory" regarding the rescue of these kids.
There are tons and tons of kids worldwide that need saving. Throw a dart and you'll find a place kids need help. If you want to keep thing patriotic, just hop down to Florida. There are some counties where 98% of kids are are free and reduced meals. They are barely making it. Send some of your rescue money there. Go to the inner cities and spend some on education, safety nets, anything that might give these kids a chance. But you see, that doesn't get publicity or the feels.

I get where you're coming from. It seems absurd when we focus our attentions on one problem when millions of others need it more urgently.
Another way of looking at it is there are too many problems to fix all at once. A small act of charity can be a start, right?
Have you ever spent five minutes on a GoFundMe site? Man, there's page after page of people crying out for help. You could blow a $million in an hour without moving the needle on global desperation. People can only do so much...

Yep, and how many of those are built by fraudsters looking to separate the gullible from the little they have (usually it’s the elderly that can’t afford it that lose their money).

I'm confused. You have a documented source that shows definitively that CNN wanted a bad outcome?
Unfounded speculation about someone wishing ill will towards minors is just bad form. I expect better on ATS.

Either you care about kids or you don't
As of August 31, for the fiscal year that began October 1, 2013, Border Patrol agents had apprehended 66,127 unaccompanied minors and 66,142 family units, the vast majority from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala; most arrived in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.

The media instructed nothing. My point was merely pointing out the hypocrisy of the public. Either you care about kids or you don't, can't have it both ways.
fyi, I come from a time before social media and had outrage back then. I've also lived in places other than the United States, so when I say I have seen poverty, I have seen poverty. I've seen toddlers with Aids that nobody would adopt because there was no medicine or cure.
